Re: Re: 1999 Crown Vic Police Service Wiring Question

Best connectors are bullet connectors (overside available from electronics wholesalers) that allow fast and easy connection to either battery or ignition source. All P71's have the same connectors in the same place, although the 2004 and 2005's now have an available power distributionl block or box in the glove box for power distribution as well as an additional power distribution box available in the trunk, IF you have one that was purchased with the Police Prep setup. There are several levels of wiring available from Ford Fleet, including the base setup and two levels of police prep that includes various stages of wiring for lights, siren and wig wags, radio rack, etc. The complete package now includes LED lights and flashers, strobes already in the taillights and corner lights etc, a strobe power supply, a fan for the trunk, wiring tunnel down the center of the floor, a part console for gear etc. Quite a package all ready to go!

Wiring diagrams

Hey Charlie,
If possible I would really like the wiring diagrams my email is mcgrah@email.com. I have the '00 P71 should be pretty much the same (sigh of hope). I would like to reconnect the aux. power in the trunk, when they decommisioned the car they just cut the lead but left the outlet. I have a feeling that the car was rewired coz I can't find the matching wire and I've taken all the tape off all the wiring in the trunk.

So either the color coding on the ford wiring diagrams is wrong or these wires come in somewhere else or don't come in at all. The battery junction box has the correctly colored wires coming out of it but they never seem to make it to the right hand side of the instrument panel where Ford says they should end. There appears to be a police power relay in the #4 relay position, since I don't know why else there would be a relay here unless you have air suspension which my car doesn't have. Also fuse 16 is there for the 50 amp connection and fuse 4 is there in the box for the 30 amp connection. I can see the large black/orange wire coming out from the junction box but after that I don't know where it goes.

Ford's diagrams show connectors c247 and c246 being just to the left of the glove box but I can not find them. These are the two connectors that suppose to allow the connection of the police equipment, one is the 50 amp service and the other is the 30 amp service. Might these connectors be behind the radio? Is it worth taking out the radio to see?

Was the police wiring optional on 1999 P71s? My car was a pretty stealthy P71, from the looks of it they had only one antenna on the trunk and a bunch of stuff installed under the hood and trunk from the looks of the holes left behind. When they took off the police equipment they didn't leave any electrical connectors behind under the hood or the trunk that I could find. I wouldn't think they would have cut out all the power connections when they removed the police equipment.

If anyone wants the Ford wiring diagrams for the 99 Crown Vics, let me know, I'm happy to email them to you.

Thanks for the help,

Charlie

What kind of connector do you use to connect into the 3hole connectors?

Re: 1999 Crown Vic Police Service Wiring Question

hello, i just recently picked up a 99 P71, and i am curious about some of the connectors and such left in the vehicle, one in particuler is a box mounted in the trunk on the driverside behind the carpet board, it's aprox 4x2x3 inches and has what looks like a red button on the top of it. any idea what it might be? if no one knows i can go take a pic to post to show it. and i'd very much like to have the 99 P71 wiring diagram sent to me if it is still available for distrabution.

Question Re: 1999 Crown Vic Police Service Wiring Question

Hey I have a 1999 Crown Vic P71 trying to install a Viper Auto start and having trouble locating the Tach wire. From the wiring info I was able to find out it's supposed to be a White / pink wire at the PCM located under the hood on the driver side of the brake master cylinder. There are several connectors of there does any one know what the PCM looks like? I find one connector on the fire wall (with a cover and a screw holding it on) but I didn't mess with that. I found another connector right under the brake master cyl that had like 45 wire's on it and found one wire Pin 32 (looked like a dirty white with pink wire), when I probed it with Meter set to A/C display showed .5v on meter. From what I read it's supposed to have 3-5V.
Can anyone help?
