Help! Front wheel hub assembly removal
Can anybody help me with some info on removing the font wheel hub assembly on a 2000 Blazer LT 4wd! Also, wheel bearing nut torque.

You need a 36mm deepwell socket (1/2 in drive or 3/4 inch drive) with ratchet. You need a decent set of gear pullers, an 18 mm wrench, and a torque wrench capable of 103 lb ft., and some wheel bearing grease.
Remove the hub nut with the 36 mm socket. Unplug the ABS sensor and remove the brake caliper and dust shield from the hub assembly. Also remove the 3 bolts (18mm) holding the old hub assy on. Put the gear puller teeth on the backside of the flange of the old hub and the center point in the middle of the splined half shaft (CV axle shaft). Proceed to tighten the puller a few turns at a time until it gets tight, and then hit the end of it (the puller) with a medium sized hammer. Tighten some more and hit again until the old hub breaks free. (this could take some time and some WD-40 is recommended) Once it's off, clean the splines and the hub carrier off a little, apply some wheel bearing grease to the splines and to the inside of the new hub assembly to help it slide onto the half shaft easier. Push the new hub back onto the half shaft as far as you can and then install the 36 mm nut. If you can put the 3 (18mm) bolts back in at this point it will help. If not, continue to tighten until you can install the 3 bolts. Tighten them to 76 lb ft. if possible. (I have never found a way to do this yet) Once the hub is bolted back into place, back the 36mm nut off until it is loose, and then tighten back to 103 lb ft of torque. Plug in your ABS, install dust shield and caliper, put wheel on, spin and check for play or looseness, and test drive. |
