99 metro uneasy on highway
Just bought the car. It is a 99 1.3 with an auto tranny. Has new tires on it also, but at highway speeds it feels a little bit uneay. Like I am driving in a wind storm. Is this common with these small cars or is there something that I can look to for fixing this problem? Thanks a lot in advance.

Re: 99 metro uneasy on highway
If you have P155 width tires on there, you might consider going to P175. Also check your shocks and have the car aligned.

Re: 99 metro uneasy on highway
There are many things it could be, mostly worn out suspension or steering components. Take it to a good alignment shop and tell them it feels unstable, they'll check everything before doing the alignment.

Re: 99 metro uneasy on highway
Now depends at what speeds it feels uneasy, if you feel that at over 65 mph it is normal, the car sits preatty tall while the car does not have a wide stance, plus alot of air goes under the car at that speed creating a small lifting effect, and don't foget that the car does not weight to much.

Re: 99 metro uneasy on highway
Start with the easy stuff first: Check tire pressure, is it at spec? Are all the tires evenly inflated? Check tire sizes/types - you and I might not mix and match but I've bought cars where people did and had them behave slightly strange until I got things matched up. Hopefully it will be something simple!

Then check and see if the rear swaybar mount is broken and inspect the front of the car for rusted frame areas where the steering rods go through.

Re: 99 metro uneasy on highway
Correct TP(That's TIRE PRESSURE not toilet paper!) for all 1999 Metros is 32psi cold, front and rear.
