XLR worth the $70,000 Price Tag?
Do you think the new XLR is worth it's $70,000 price tag? As much as I like Cadillac, I think that's a little overboard. What do you think? Why not better gettin a Lexus SC430?

Having driven both I think if it was my money that I was spending, I'd probably pick the SC 430. The coolness factor of the XLR is amazing, the exterior design is fantastic. No matter where I drove it, when I stopped people came out of the woodwork to come over and look at it. The first question they always asked was, "What is it?" The Northstar V8 also sounds and feels amazing.
If money wasn't a factor, I had a couple other cars, and I just wanted something for the weekends, I'd seriously consider the XLR. But when it comes down to real life, I'd probably take the 20-hp hit, and go with the bigger cheaper SC 430 (which has a nicer interior imho). |

Re: XLR worth the $70,000 Price Tag?
DEFINITELY not a $70k car, a BMW Z4 is about half the price and is ultimately better, the Porsche Boxster S has it for dinner and is still less expensive- So what is the point, with a price tag like that????

Re: XLR worth the $70,000 Price Tag?
You gotta remember its a limited production car too.Yea,the price is steep, but every cars price is steep today.Come on,is a Maybach worth $350,000?You know what kind of a house you can get for that?In my opinion,no car today is worth its price tag.So if you gotta pay 350K for a Maybach(yea it is 10 times better of a car but still,it is just a car) then why not 70K for a XLR?And again, its a limited production car too.I wouldn't say that the Z4 is better too.And the XLR and Boxster s are about neck and neck as far as performance goes. Its all about what like and what you'd pay for what you like.Speed don't mean squat really. You can't really use a super cars speed anyway unless your willing to ship you car to Germany for a day just to test the speed.

Basically a Vette in Caddy clothing w/a Caddy motor. Bottom line is that fit and finish aren't really all that important to me in a two seater vert sports car. The Vette albeit not as classy or refined is still faster and IMHO fits the sports car mold better for a whole lot less money. I'd go with the Vette and if I was looking to spend XLR money it would be on a Viper

Definitely not worth the price, though its one of the most aesthetically pleasing autos ever produced by Cadillac....hell GM period.
I see it as the "End-of-life crisis car"...you know, for old money. Early life crisis-Ford Mustang/Chevrolet Camaro Mid life crisis-Chevrolet Corvette/Porsche Boxter End life crisis-Cadillac XLR/Mercedes SL500 I don't care crisis-Bentley Arnage/Ferrari 360 That's what ve noticed anyways for the most part |

What's funny is that the people that can afford the XLR wouldn't be caught dead on this forum.

Your opinion doesn't matter because you are so narrow minded and "patriotic" that you can't realise that there are cars made overseas that are better than the ones in the States.

Re: XLR worth the $70,000 Price Tag?
American made cars are just as good now as the ones over seas, look at the reliability ratings. If anything they are better than many european cars. So I'm not narrow minded, I'm actually seeing the facts and then picking a brand that I like and that is reliable.

Then there's the fact that few reliability issues these days are serious and things like cornering ability, braking, comfort, performance and engineering should determine how much better a car is, that's where the Americans have been left behind (Except for a few good engines giving decent straight line performance) and comfort.

You must be Italian, your stubborn, and like to argue. Even though you know that your views aren't always correct. I'm not saying mine is either. I'm showing you the facts.

Re: Re: XLR worth the $70,000 Price Tag?
Let's look at it this way:
Buick, Pontiac and the late Oldsmobile make the same cars (More or less) do they not? Look at the differences in the charts between the three. Since they are owned by the same company- quality control at the factory would be similar, the engines are the same, as are the chassis' and transmissions. So how do you explain the difference in positions between the three, then? http://www.jdpower.com/news/releases...asp?ID=2004055
