Alfa Romeo 155 V6 DTM Tamiya 1/24

For a while I have been working on Alfa Romeo 155 V6 for DTM. Model is out of production and this seems like limited re issue from few years ago. I will use Hobby design PE set and own CF templates.

Within design set there are also nice resin exhaust tips, they are unique to this car and it is one of the reasons why I have chosen this model year instead of 1996.

Soon as I started I have noticed that bonnet is missing one edge so I fixed it with brass sheet and epoxy putty.

Also, there is a gap between firewall and body:

I managed to find nice photo which will be used for engine bay:

I added tube from the cooler, additional connectors and tank on fenders and increased length of air ducts.

I tried to replicate mechanism which is on strut bar, I think that it is related to anti roll bar. For this I used 0,1 mm brass sheet and 0,75 mm styrene rod:

This will be connected with rods to the firewall. Some of this is improvisation so if someone has nice pictures of 1993/1994 Alfa engine bay I will be thankful. I'm also checking MFH model in 1/12 scale for some extra detail.

When I spend a lot of time in improvements I can't wait to pain something, wheels are usually the first:

Re: Alfa Romeo 155 V6 DTM Tamiya 1/24

Completed most of the CF, majority of the parts is symmetric so I decided to place CF in same way:

Dashboard was already painted and than I decided to rework ventilation openings. I was using 0,25 mm styrene which was additionally thinned.

Re: Alfa Romeo 155 V6 DTM Tamiya 1/24

Finished chassis:

Engine is completed with few wires. Exhaust manifolds are weak point as they are not separated. This is not unusual for 1/24 model. Luckily it won't be visible later:

Engine is barely visible from air boxes. I will add some extra wires and details here:

On some photos of real Alfa there is visible fire extinguisher. Tamiya didn't include it so I decided to scratch one by myself. Bottle is machined from aluminium while other parts are brass and plastic:

Didn't have any sticker so I painted white rectangle. It will be hard to nottice that this isn't decal once I install it in interior.

Other parts for interior are also completed:

Re: Alfa Romeo 155 V6 DTM Tamiya 1/24

Interior is finished. I made few extra parts and added some wires. Some of the wireing is correct while other is a bit of improvisation due to lack of photos and differences from car to car.

Seat belts are so-so and I'm still searching for perfect seat belt material.

Part where doors are connected to frame looks simplified so I decided to modify it:

I cut away some plastic, thinned the edges and added piece of styrene few mm further to the back to get some depth:

Hinges are brazed:

I will need to improve alignment during final assembly but this is how it's going to look:

Man, nice work on the cables. That is really looking crisp.
And those hinges. I just cut out doors for the first time. I would be glad if I can make them open alright... these look just like real ones.

Re: Alfa Romeo 155 V6 DTM Tamiya 1/24

Thanks, these doors won't open, it is just extra detail to make it look better. I opened doors and hood before and each time I screwed up by not leaving enough big gap between body and door. After primer, paint and 2K clearcoat gap was too narrow so I couldn't properly close them. If I will ever do it again I will leave around 0,5 mm gap on bare plastic for all additional paint.

Re: Alfa Romeo 155 V6 DTM Tamiya 1/24

That is actually really helpful advise. As I'm working on the doors of my Boxster I would have made that mistake too. I hope I can get that right. Good luck with the rest of your build.

Re: Alfa Romeo 155 V6 DTM Tamiya 1/24

Close to completition, color varies from pic to pic depending on WB. Also, model is pretty dusty at some pics which will be cleaned before final photo session.

Some extra parts in CF:

Rear wing is full CF. I hate these kind of parts because I have to apply clearcoat after one side is done and than finish the other side:

Few minor details, antennas, side blinkers and something which should represent fuel cap. Side blinkers were molded together with bonnet so I had to make new ones, and fuel cap was not existing.

Front anti-roll bar adjuster is combination of my parts and rod ends from RB Motion:

In place:

Made new bonnet pins, my part next to PE set part. I cut some parts from PE set part, modified them and glued to spring which I made from 0,15 mm wire:

Worked out great:
