I didnt say the 360 is quicker than the Z06 because of its higher power to weight ratio. Thats simply one factor. The other is the superior handling. By the way, lateral acceleration is one thing, handling is quite another. As for why i say Corvettes are behind in terms of chassis technology, Id love to say ive driven every Corvette over the last 3 decades but the simple fact is i havent, so i wont even pretend to have done so. But lets face the facts. American muscle-cars, such as the 'vette, were designed to go fast, primarily in a straight line, as that does suit american roads. So theyre perfectly suited to your roads. Roads in Europe are not quite the same, which leads to the manufacturers placing certain attributes ahead of others when designing their cars. A shedload of torque is not as useful as a nimble, agile chassis in the pursuit of speed, and consequently Porsche and Ferrari have represented the cutting edge of chassis design and technology far before the Z06 improved the Corvette's dynamics. Have Chevy made a car as great, or that handles as majestically as an F40, or 959? And that was 15 years ago. Since then we've had F355, Modena, 993TT, and GT3, a race car for the road; the Z06 wont get near the Gt3 and the latter 'only' has 360bhp. Why? Its chassis. Why did the GT3 hold the production car record for the Old Nurburgring despite 'only' having 360bhp? Because Porsche and Ferrari have been developing their cars at the 'Ring for decades, and believe me the 'Ring is the greatest challenge a road car and driver can ever face. Any self-respecting, or honest car expert who's had the chance to drive cars from both sides of the pond would confirm the European's superiority in chassis development. I've never read an article that puts a Corvette's handling ahead of a comparable Porsche's or Ferrari's, and that does include American magazines. Simple as that.

ok . . . speaking of the z06's purpose of "straight lines"

did u happen to catch the first GT ALMS race in sebring this weekend?

who came in first? the z06 was it?

TOTAL DOMINATION over the rs6, 996 911 gt cup, e46 m3, and even the viper gts

now . . . where are those modenas??? :smoker:

No i didnt catch that race, cos the series isnt screened over here. But thats irrelevant.

Again, race-spec has nothing to do with road-spec, and we are talking road spec here

First off, that wasn't a ALMS race, Audi have never entered a RS6 in LeMans, or any other production car for that matter.
It was a 50 min. N/A World Challenge GT race, the firste one this season, I might add. And the Z06 dominated the race and won by with an amazing seven and fifteen seconds.

And FYI, the GT3 is a production car.

wow... i can't believe i threw everyone for that loop...

bhp/ton and power to weight are the same thing...

just different versions of it...
you can skew the numbers however you want to make an argument go your way...

what about tq numbers for the two cars?

that's pretty important when coming out of a corner...

and we know who has higher tq...

the major point was that people are absolutely trashing on cars based on what they've read... i've seen the inside of a zo6, and it's pretty nice...

who said they were cheap? journalists.
yeah, it's not as nice as a ferrari, but hell, for 1/4 or less of the price... i'll take the mildly less perfect interior... thanks...

ok, thanks for the correction, oh, and btw, next time u respond, would it kill for u to be a little less pompous mr all mighty knowledgable racing car god?

and btw, when i was talking about the gt3, i wanted to imply it was not a street spec roadcar i.e. u cant take one out on the street i.e. only track use

I just don't like you...

And once again, the GT3 is a "street spec roadcar".

thanks for the link, unfortunately i am unable to read german

oh btw, the reason i say the car isnt road spec (there was obviously some confusion here) is because in america, the gt3 isnt street legal . . . we dont even get them here and the ones that are in service are track cars imported from other countries (i.e. strictly for track use, not road spec)

obviously in ur country, things are different

oh and btw, why would i even care whether or not u liked me?

Yes in Europe things ARE different- GT3's can be used on the street and people often do, so yes the GT3 is a street-spec car just with develpments from Porsches racing team.

and if deakins doesn't like you then nobody likes you :finger:

well . . . whatever governing body held that race at sebring a couple weeks ago, all that is important is that the z06 came out on top . . . chalk another one up for the c5s

I guess by now you know that the GT3 is a road car

As is the 993 (road-going) GT2, which also destroys a zed-oh-poo, as does the 996 GT2, naturally.

Nothing against the Corvette, but like i said, if it wants to be taken seriously, Chevy should bring it to the 'ring and see how close it comes to the 8-minute mark. not so close, i dont think

Im sure they do, but if the time the Z06 achieved was worth hearing, well, we'd have heard about it. And i dont know what time it lapped in. Do you?
