Can anyone here guess what this thing is?
This is my latest creation, a resin kit of an obscure one-off concept car from the 30's. It's nickname was the Flying Wombat.
Anyone have a go at what it is? One clue...it's front wheel drive. Okay, a second clue...it was built in Pasadena, California on Colorado Blvd. A third clue...there's a Hot Wheels car of it.   I think it looks pretty cool in it's unfinished, primered state. Looks more like a restoration than an original buildup. Final paint will be Tamiya black. Proof that Darth Vader existed in the 30's?  |

Looks like it was built around a longitudinally mounted engine, not a transverse! I have no clue, BTW |

Could it be.....
a Phantom Corsair?? At least thats what Hot Wheels calls it. Yours and the Hot Wheels one are so close its not even funy. Good job. Can't wait to see finished product.

Yeah, it's definitely a Corsair, about a 1938 model looking at it?? Hehe....man I have some useful sources too though....

1938 Phantom Corsair
Yes, it's a 1938 Phantom Corsair. It was based on a Cord chassis and engine, and Cords were FWD.
This model is a resin kit by Scale Kraft of South Africa. They do a lot of interesting models and trans-kits. I'm looking forward to their Mangusta kit which is in the works... http://www.scalekraft.co.za/ |

One of the best modelers in my club showed-up with one of their resin kits tonight. It was a '60's VW Beetle done as a notchback. The casting was thin, beautifully molded, and really impressive!! I'm looking at one myself...

I have that Hot Wheels car!
Its a beautiful car and what a great kit! I've come across Scale Kraft once before and was impressed with their selection, i particularly fancy getting one of their Alfa SZ's.

i was gonna say Cord 512 (first production FWD car), so i guess i would have gotten half-marks since it uses the chassis. very nice work!

As stated it's the Phantom Corsair (built on the Cord chassis).
This was to be the first of many from the HJ Heinz company, but the old man died before the car company got off the ground. Today the Petersons (of Hot Rod publishing fame) own the 6 seat Corsair. hth, Bill
