Oil consumption, 2000 altima?
I was wondering if any one else out there has had any problems with oil consumption? I've had this problem for a while now, I've just kept a check on it. I recently bought a pcv valve to put in, but haven't done it yet. I'm not sure if that's the problem or not? The car runs fine, it just uses oil. Any ideas?

Clogged pcv valves can cause oil leaks but I am not sure it will cause oil burning. |

Thank you for the reply. The car uses about a quart to two quarts between oil changes, and its got almost 100k miles on it. I changed the valve cover gasket a while back, because it was leaking. I recently checked the car for leaks and none were discovered. I'm really hoping that its not anything major!!! |

Assuming you change oil every 3 to 4k miles 1 quart used seems OK but 2 seems a bit much for a 100k car. You could remove a plug and look for oil residue? I have 160k on my alty and it uses about 1/2 a quart between changes. Its changed every 4k miles. What type of driving do you do?

I actually changed the plugs and wires not to long ago, but I really didn't check out the old plugs. I'll pull one and check it out. I drive about 60 miles a day up and down a mountain! I know it's hard on the car, but I gotta work!

Re: Oil consumption, 2000 altima?
I finally replaced the pcv valve, (which was rather difficult!!!) The old one was clogged.I thought the new one would take care of the oil problem, but it didn't??? I pulled the spark plugs, no sign of oil on them! I put a big piece of card board under it for hours to check for leaks, none visible. I had someone crank it, so I could check and see if it smoked, and it didn't! I am confused! Sorry it took so long to reply. If anyone has any info or advice, I would appreciate it...
