Volvo 740 heater fan
heater fans keep failing on 740 and 740 turbo.
On our '87 and '88 740's we have replaced heater fans 5 times. $300 or $400 each time, with labor. I have heard that this is common on 740's but surely by this time somebody has figured out a fix? What's the problem, what's the fix? Thanks, Space Cowboy Last edited by Space Cowboy; 11-30-2004 at 09:19 PM. Reason: re-state more clearly |

Re: Volvo 740 heater / AC /fan
Well, I don't know if you are going to read this since you posted months ago, but I know the problem. Their is some bad caulk or sealer somewhere above the fan that allows water to seep onto the fan and rust the bearing. Once the bearing rusts the fan makes a LOT of noise. One band-aid fix is to spray WD-40 on the bearing every now and then.

Volvo 740 starting problems
my mom has a 740 gle starts and runs great most of the time. but sometimes it will not start and takes up to an hour and a half for it to start. just replaced the sending unit and still does the same thing. wondering if anyone could tell me what might cause this to happen.

Re: Re: Volvo 740 heater / AC /fan
How do I reach the bearing to spray WD-40 on it?
Thanks, Space Cowboy [re problem: heater fan, 740/940 makes a lot of scraping noise (not airflow noise) (quote=Tomsriv"...There is some bad caulk or sealer somewhere above the fan that allows water to seep onto the fan and rust the bearing. Re: Volvo 740 heater / AC /fan
Take off some of the parts till you're near the bearing, then try to spray some WD-40.
Hope this helps. _____________________________ 1991 Volvo 780 (love the customized Volvo 780 Parts) |
