08 Cummins exhuast
I went ahead and pulled the plug on a full emissions delete on my 08 3500 6.7 Cummins. Yes I understand it could get me in trouble but coming up with 800 for a full delete and tune was much easier than replacing the egr valve, sensor and dpf as far as my bank account is concerned. I have what I need to straight pipe it, but I drove it home today with nothing on after the bracket where the dpf bolts on. The sound it makes as is, is pretty incredible. It has a very good note, my problem is first of all the loudness of it. It will be great for short trips but gave me a headache after about 2 hours today. The other parts is the "whoosh" noise at slow acceleration and running at a lower rpm such as cruising around 30 mph. I am going to put a muffler on it, but I want to find the right one. I want to eliminate the whoosh and quiet it down a little while keeping the actual exhuast note or maybe making it rumble a little more if that's possible. Drone doesnt bother me too much but a raspy sound makes me want to bail out at highway speeds. My goal is, as my ex calls it "panty dropper" deep Cummins sound that we all know and love. I I havnt heard any 6.7s that sound nice without that raspy note at some point in the rpm range while the old 5.9s all seemed to sound pretty great with just a straight pipe. Any input would be great, I'll have to take someone's word for it because clips off the internet never do justice to the actual sound you'll achieve.

Re: 08 Cummins exhuast
As much fun as a hood stack would be it just begs to be pulled over lol. Last thing I need is a cop looking under the hood and noticing it's not stock... or legal

Re: 08 Cummins exhuast
Mine has a 4" turbo back with a muffler but I don't know who made it.
Are you near Golden?

Re: 08 Cummins exhuast
No I'm about an hour north east of fort Collins. I found a performance muffler, I think diamond eye is the manufacturer. In the description it says it has a good deep tone and reviews say it will cut out the whine of the turbo veins at idle which is exactly what I'm looking for. But it says it's a straight through design with fiberglass packed baffles around the outside. From what I've read is that the soot will eventually saturate the fiberglass and basically turn it into a straight through pipe with no muffling. Any thoughts? The price is right, I have everything but the muffler so I want to give it a try but if the soot will be an issue I dont want to waste my limited money

Re: 08 Cummins exhuast
How does yours sound? Does it have any whine? Mine will essentially be a custom turbo back exhuast made by me I'm just missing the muffler

Re: 08 Cummins exhuast
Mine doesn't whine out the exhaust but whistles from the turbo and BHAF.
Sometimes you have to "blow out the soot....WOT"

Re: 08 Cummins exhuast
I enjoy a good turbo whistle but the whine at low rpms through the exhuast is exhausting... pun intended

Re: 08 Cummins exhuast
I believe the common rail injected engines are clean and not likely to smoke excessive so the glasspack muffler should last.
Wow! I love it when fighter jets fly over here.

Re: 08 Cummins exhuast
I ordered that muffler so hopefully itll last me. Jets are cool when they are above you... imaging one buzzing by right under your butt. That gets old quick. Changed fuel filter and air filter and it got better. Now it's only really bad before it gets up to temperature

Re: 08 Cummins exhuast
The high pitched whine that I assume comes from the turbo. It makes that sound at idle until it gets to around 160 degrees. Once it hits that temperature it goes away completely, suddenly too, almost like the computer changes something because the engine is warmed up.
Side note, I'm taking a road trip of about 4k miles next month and my brother thinks I should use his car instead of my pickup. Is there anything i should look for before hand that could warn me of a potential breakdown? I drive 1k miles a week and no issues but he says 4k miles in 10 days is a lot more stress on it |

Re: 08 Cummins exhuast
Other than the rougher ride, I don't see any reason to not drive your truck on the road trip. You might replace the fuel filter then look at your tires & brakes.

Re: 08 Cummins exhuast
Just did the fuel filter and all the brakes. For some reason I go through brakes pretty quick. Probably bring an extra serpentine belt just in case
