Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
For small parts, it might get tricky as you need a cloth or swab to put it on. If you plan on doing a frame you have to mask off the areas that don't require it or else your going to have chrome everywhere else. Its basiclly like putting on rubbing compound or wax.

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
Yes, plus it's powder. I watched the video, and it was falling off the Q-Tip onto her work area - she used a piece of paper to catch it. She didn't mask the spoons, of course, but for most things masking would be necessary.
She put on gloves. Is that really necessary? Seems like you could wash it off your hands, maybe with the help of some iso alcohol. I'm not so sure how important the mask would be, either. It looks like a heavy powder that wouldn't float in the air. For all that, it really looked great, especially on the spoon with the black undercoat. The one without an undercoat looked kind of yellow - not as good, IMO. More questions: 1. Does it look yellowish on a silver or aluminum undercoat? 2. Given my usual manual non-dexterity, how do you remove it?

I would say yes to the gloves, as they even include a mask in the kit. Something in me says, "Danger Will Robinson! Danger!" More answers: 1. No 2. Sanding or by using a dremel tool with a soft attachment. Daniel |

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
I see it is back ordered. Could I still place an order for a few and pay and wait? It seems that I am able to buy some. Is this a wise move. I may have a better chance hitting the lottery than buying this stuff! Can anyone tell me how big a container is for the approximate $18.00 USD it will cost me?

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
Guys, i got mine from a friend, just a tiny round container, about 1/10 volume of the original KGS container, and that 1/10 can last me quite some times
So, anyone who see the KGS on Hobbysearch or HLJ, please please please don't grab 2-3 box of it, one box will actually last you few years |

She seemed pretty casual about drippings. Seems like you could economize by applying the stuff over the bottle (set on a piece of glass) and using a fresh Q-Tip to pick up and apply the drippings to your part. EDIT: I just found another KGS YouTube video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amL_QOA0A-0. He talks about how amazing the finish is, but his pix don't reflect (!) that. I'm shipping with SAL. The price is reasonable - 380 yen - but there's no way to predict how long it will take. Once I got stuff in four days and another time it took nearly three weeks! They shipped mine on the 25th; I'll let y'all know when it arrives.
