Just want to jump back a few posts. Don't think there is no agreement in Japan about 'power wars' more of a government law that all car's are restricted to 286bhp.
Take an R34 GTR. Get a standard one re-mapped and de-limited from Japan and you'll see 340bhp even though it's official output is 286. Back to the NSX, amazing car but 0-60 times don't mean sh*t if you've got the wrong person behind the wheel. Factory figures are usually quoted after hours upon hours of testing to get the perfect time the car will do ! I always go with independent times from magazines that use testing equipment. Just using an example. Autocar Magazine (UK) tested 2 Ferrari Enzo's using timing gear from 0 to 120 mph. One car was getting to 60 in 3.9sec and the other was doing 4.5sec !! (Different drivers) The only thing I've seen to big the NSX up was a video of and NSX and 355 doing the quarter mile, NSX came home first. Can't remember the time but it was close. |

I think the time was 12.877. If the car was stock, it has 290bhp with some shorter-then-usdm gears. I do think that is possible with an awesome driver behind the wheel.

Yup, thats where I seen it. Being to Japanese guy's driving, dunno if they wanted the NSX to come home first or not?
It was only a very small difference. Doesn't make the 355 a bad car tho. Would have either car anyday !! |

Re: Someone please tell me this isn't true about the NSX 0-60 mph time...
I dislike the fact that you suddenly change your views upon the NSX once you see 0-60: 7.5 seconds. No offense, but if you were a true NSX fan, you would obviously have known this was a typo. I can't believe you actually thought it said 7.5. And.. "lagging behind competition"? .. sorry, it's the driver, not the car. Oh wait, I forgot, the NSX is made for straights and quarter-miles, so EVERYTHING is about the car. If you own one, you should know better to race this on a road course.

And 5.7 seconds for the 3.0 must suck. Those 'base models' went for $75k new. $20,000 new '04 mustang and SRT-4 being as fast-faster? You can do a 'lil here' to any car for much cheaper to make it faster. All performance parts for an NSX are expensive, anyway. As for the new nsx-r that will come out, mid 4 second 0-60 for $450k? No thanks. New corevette Z06. 500 hp, high 3 second 0-60. The best thing about the NSX is the exterior styling, which they killed with the new ones. The interiors aren't all they build them up to be, and you can get the equivelent in a 300C |

Re: Someone please tell me this isn't true about the NSX 0-60 mph time...
This argument comes up consantly, NSX vs. Ferraris. Obviously some of the other super cars are going to be faster. But i think a lot of us know that the NSX is more capable in other areas. I have seen a video of a road coarses where a NSX is beaint several Ferraris, porchas and SKylines like the whole race. THe thing corners like a demon.

Re: Someone please tell me this isn't true about the NSX 0-60 mph time...
what all of you need to learn is, the NSX is not a car meant to set world records, its more like a DeLorean, a fast looking car meant to be the businessman-that-has-no-idea-how-to-drive supercar. Look at all the wrecked lambos, ferraris, etc. all over the internet, its all because you have to be a hell of a driver to keep those cars under control. On the other hand, the NSX is meant for the driver that doesnt know how to modulate the throttle, brake early, shift weight, etc. so they made an underpowered car that any schmo could get in and not kill himself. Hell, I drive a 2002 nissan sentra SE-R spec V with I/H/E and it only cost about $18k for the car and the mods and it runs about a 14.2 1/4 mile (traction limited mind you) and could smoke an NSX at an autocross and perhaps on some smaller circuit tracks as well. There was a modded NSX at an autocross locally not long ago and he SUCKED, it was slower than all of the miatas, tiburons, golfs, etc. I once wanted an NSX more than anything, but now i realize its just a complete waste of time and money. If you want to drag race, get a C6 ZO6, if you want to rally, get an EVO/STI, if you want to handle, get a lotus elise, but dont get an NSX unless you want to waste your money.
P.S. the only reason it even runs the times it does (13's instead of 14's) is because it has hefty rear tires, put some 7" wide rims with 215's like my car and see how slow it runs. |
