From RM FB page:

That $9M opening bid was pretty cool

Cheaper than I thought it'd go for, so 'basically' the same as what Rowan wanted for #061

I remember talking with one of the guys that maintained Don Wallace's collection at the time. He said they were turning down offers for $2mm for the car at the time, which was really good for an F1 then. My how times have changed. Can't wait to see how much it goes for. I'll say $13 million sold including commission.

Looks like you were closer after commission going for $13.75mm. I don't see how that sale justifies a $1.25mm commission. The car can sell itself imo...

Re: Chassis 073 to be offered at 2015 RM-Sotheby's Auctions in Monterey

Car needs a trip to MSO to clean it up - there's nothing terribly wrong with it but there are pieces starting to show their age. Hazy headlamp covers are the most noticeable and the carbon on the front splitter is yellowing from age as well.

Early speculation seems to be that this may join the SBH Royal Auto Gallery in Abu Dhabi, but don't quote me on that. If it does appear there I am sure we will know.

Heard the buyer's name today and that the car will end up in Ohio. More to follow on this topic once confirmed.

I second that these cars deserve to be driven

This one certainly hasn't been with just 435 miles in 12 years, including what was likely some amount of test mileage after the clutch and fuel bladder were changed.

073 is already being driven around Monterey. My kind of owner!

Re: Chassis 073 to be offered at 2015 RM-Sotheby's Auctions in Monterey

So I am assuming it had a full mechanical chek over before the sale as I certainly woud not trust a car with so few miles in that many years without a major service first.
But you're right good to see it being used.

Re: Chassis 073 to be offered at 2015 RM-Sotheby's Auctions in Monterey

If you read the auction description, the car was serviced by BMW North America in 2013 where in addition to the typical items, a new clutch and new fuel bladder were fitted, at a cost of $80k. This isn't a total time capsule car - it just hasn't been used as one might hope.

Previous owner is holding onto another F1 as well that we likely won't see any time soon either.

Re: Chassis 073 to be offered at 2015 RM-Sotheby's Auctions in Monterey

Video from inside the room as 073 was auctioned.

While the final price achieved is quite impressive I think the only exciting part of the selling process was when Max tried to open the bidding at $5M and instantly received a $9M bid.

Big thanks to Rob Myrick for filming this!
