'89 325i loses power after warming up
Hi All,
A recurring problem. Replaced fuel pump 2 years ago, and I believe the relay as well. The car does just fine at cold start. The car loses power after some period of time, when warmed up. Then check engine light comes on. At this point it will idle roughly, but not quite stall. It will NOT accelerate, but chugs and sputters badly when given more throttle. Then, it will suddenly run fine and strong again. Presently, just tried it, no warning lights and running smoothly after cooling for several hours. Any suggestions? Thank you! Ken |

sounds like a sticking [closed] fuel pressure regulator. review earlier posts on proceedure and see what Engine Code[s] are stored..................jb.

OK, I bought and installed a new FPR. We'll see if that fixes it.
Pic: http://www.4activeaudio.com/images/FPR.jpg How to, referencing an '87. Mine was even easier: http://member.rivernet.com.au/btaylo...placE30M3.html Hope this helps, Ken |

okay, hope I don't need to start standing closer to my patented 'DIAGNOSTIC DARTBOARD' or tweak it too much, I was hoping to begin marketing it soon &
the decision weighs on your results..................jb. |

It's been a couple of weeks now, and the problem of losing power has changed, but hasn't been fixed.
The problem shows up on "cold" start now. Cold in quotes because it's summertime in CA, after all. Any other ideas? Thank you, there has to be plenty of room left on the dart board! Ken |

A new O2 sensor was part of some repairs I had done to fix this problem a couple of years ago. Could it have failed already?
Throttle position, like a dead spot? Linkage? Ken |

it could if your car burns a little oil it could clog the o2 sensor triggering rough idle. try running premium gas with some fuel cleaner i like red line fuel treatment. and take it on the highway and open it up a . make sure you run the gas u have in it now completly out before treatment

Re: '89 325i loses power after warming up
throtle position should messed with only by a knowledgable mechanic. it controls the air to gas mixure which affects idleof the car.
