New 1 series?

Hi all

I saw a blurb in Automobile magazine that BMW will release the new 1 series (subcompact) to compete against Audi's new A3.
If BMW does decide to release the 1 and comes out with an M version of it should future posts go in here?

lol... that would be cool, a hot 1-series.... i think the S3 is a great looking car and its supposed to be very capable too, just not fun to drive.. if BMW release the 1-series in M form, im sure it would be great.

cheers

BMW will be introducing a 1 series compact insted of bringing the 325ti over here. Just ask a well informed dealer. BMW does have a intent of bringing a subcompact over here to compeat with benz and the possible 2004 to 2005 release of the AUDI a3 followed by the s3. When is it comeing is up to our german friends but it is comeing.

I don't think that M1 has anything in common with it , and it's the M1 forum , so it should be moved into nonspecific IMO , but i'm not the mod here... Anyway a 1-series would be nice...

Am I the only person alive who remembers the M1? I think putting the M1 badge on an economy car is somewhat disgusting, but then again, I am a somewhat opinionated individual.

The M1 used to be a mid engined 6 cylinder sports car, capable of awesome performance, as seen in turbocharged versions.

Check it out, it'll take one minute, and who knows, you might fall in love with it.

Just to ease your fears, the hot version of the 1-series will NOT be called the M1, this has already been decided.

I don't "remember" the M1 as i wasnt alive when it came out, but i know of it and more importantly of its significance to BMW cars today, and therefore admire it greatly. I too am surprised that the M1 forum has received such little attention. Shame.......

cheers,
jay

I wasn't alive either, but I still remember. The M1 was and still is a wonderful sports car. Too bad it never really made production.

Yes, and there are some dedicated owners out there who have done custom performance work for them. The cars were originally designed for a BMW racing series, which was combined with the F1 season, for some great racing. The F1 drivers all drove M1s, and there were some really good races...

I have seen a couple turbo M1s, and they are wickedly fast cars

Anyone know what the pricing will be like? I heard it will start at 16 grand. And I also heard that only 4 cylinder engines will be availble (even high performance model will be a four), and BMW 4 are ok, but far behind their Inline sixes... I want mine with their 2.2 I6!!!

Prices will start at £17k at the very least.
There are only plans for 4 pot engines so far, with a high capacity 4-pot developing approx 24-250bhp for the M version (M1?)

The interior of the 1 series doesn't look comfortable at all! Looks like it is made of wood.

its obviously more of a design statement than what it will actually look like, though certain aspects will be carried over to production. i think it looks fantastic, anyway
