Disributer Replacement
I have just moved and I need a car basically....so a friend of mine said I could have his Rover if I could get it working. He knows nothing of cars, I have never even seen a Rover before and all I can get out of him is that it will not start when it's wet!? So first thing I think of is the Distributer Cap. Now I looked at the car yesterday and can't find a single mark on it to determine the model or style, there's no manual anywhere and I even checked the inside of the driver and passenger door. NOTHING?!
I've never replaced a distibuter in my life and was wondering what's involved. I realize it's probaly not that hard and I can pretty much do basic work on vehicals as I do all the work on my Toyota at home... but I am not there. So any information I could get on Rover cars would be awesome!! Jamie R. |

Re: Disributer Replacement
Well disrtibutors usually just unbolt/unscrew and tent to be held in by a bracket.
Any more info on the model of Rover as that might help identify what engine you have. i.e. year of manufacture, model number (213, 400, 820). Rover used their own engines and Honda engines but without knowing more about the car than just it's a Rover, I cannot help.

Re: Disributer Replacement
Okay, um....where would I look for the information on the engine and model etc. on the vehicle itself? I looked on the inside of all the doors and found nothing. Is there anything under the hood? The model number on most engines is down on the left side near the bottom where the cylinder head is. Is there something there maybe?
I can't believe there is nothing on the outside of the car itself. Cheers. Jamie R. |

Re: Disributer Replacement
Okay I will check the boot lid and get a photo for you. I didn't really give a good look over yet only as I was going to work and such. I'll see what I can find and post it straight away.

Re: Disributer Replacement
Okay I finally got some information on the Rover that I have to sort out.
Here we go. Make and Model is Rover 620ti Year is 1994 Engine 4 Cylinder 16 Valve turbo Engine Number is 20T4GH650101000 Doors 4 Body Saloon, Black It's totally dead now. But from what my friend told me, when it's wet out it won't start. I looked at the distributer today and can't see any physicall cracks in it but that don't mean a thing anyway. I guess it's the first step. |

Re: Disributer Replacement
Distributor job s to sell the car and earn profit so they will always tell you about the good points and never will tell you about the negative ones. So,its better do some research over the internet and see the user reviews.
