1991 pathfinder sputters

When my 1991 pathfinder warms up it starts sputtering when driving it. When its cold it doesnt do it as bad. I have taken it to a mechanic and they havent found anything wrong with it. If anyone has any ideas what it could be that would be awesome. its a 1991 xe with a 5-speed tranny.

Re: 1991 pathfinder sputters

I had a similar problem with my 95 V6 4WD Pathfinder, it turned out to be two things. The MAF (Mass Air Flow sensor) was dirty. I cleaned it and the wiring contacts and that helped. After that I reset the Idle up slightly as it was a little low. No more problems since, that was two years ago. It may also be a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), sometimes they get worn in the low idle position and that won't show up until the car warms up and the fast idle advance silonoid allows the trottle to drop down into the normal position. That happened to me on an old Ford station wagon we had. Replaced it and never had the problem again. Good luck.
