Ultima-McLaren; Does anyone know this car?
This Car was recently for sale in Germany, imported from Britain.
Ultima McLaren GT1 Race Car, 1985, Serial-Nr. 0001/85, 5,3 L Chevy-Engine, R30 Gearbox, Single-Seater. Is this a predecessor of the Ultima GTR? Thank you for any Information about the car. Rolf http://mitglied.lycos.de/rolstein30/Ultima-McLaren.jpg Last edited by rolstein; 10-23-2003 at 07:01 AM. |

Dunno about the McLaren part but it looks like an old shape Ultima kit car. Check the link below.
http://www.ultimacars.com/ Light-weight construction, Chevvy V8 and Porsche gear-box. It's a flying machine or at least the new Ultima cars are. I would say it's defo a predecessor to the GTR. |

Could be a few reasons.
A seperate McLaren operates in the US doing Engines etc, so it could have a McLaren tuned engine, just not the one in Woking. Theres also a engine company in UK called McLaren Nicholson engines that use to tune and rebuild Cosworth DFV/Y engines so it could be that Or it could have been "dropped" in because McLaren used an Ultimate chassis as a mule when developing the F1 |

that had something to do with the American tuning company and nothing to do with the F1 team/road car company in Woking, england

McLarens First Prototype before the mclaren F1 was an Ultima kit car modified to fit a GM performance parts 454 crate engine. I believe they named the car Albert. Supposedly Abert and Edward( the ultima car with the BMW V12 that would eventually be used) were both crushed though.
