Rotors always replaced with pads?
I have a 2011 Nissan Rogue with 86,000 miles. I'm told my pads are at a 2.7 and I need new brakes. Two shops I've called tell me the rotors are replaced at the same time. Im looking at about $350 for the front and $300 for the rear. Do you agree rotor replacement is a given or am I being taken? I'm not experiencing any braking issues. Thanks

There is no need to replace rotors just because you are replacing pads, unless the rotors are out of spec, or causing a thumping brake pedal.

Re: Rotors always replaced with pads?
Rotors only need to be replaced if you've let the pads go for too long and as a result the rotors are warped. Even then, sometimes the rotors can just be resurfaced. If a mechanic tells you that your rotors are warped, always get a second opinion, especially if the car doesn't get all shaky when you hit the brakes. Warped Rotors are often used as a scare tactic by greasy shops to get you to buy more sh*t that you don't actually need.

Re: Rotors always replaced with pads?
they will be worn down some and will have some small groves in them. depends how thick they still are and if they will still be within spec after surfacing. often they just say to replace them to save them the job of machining them. they usually run about $35-60 each for new
