Re: cant shift
what do u mean it wont let you? is it like u get a grinding sound when u try to push it in?
or the kind of "wont let you" like when ur doin 60mph and u accidentally slip it towards 2nd gear? if its lettin u shift but ur not goin anywhere, ur synchros or flywheel might be gone |

Re: cant shift
honestly i dont know, i dont kno of anyone whos had to have that done.
id GUESS that it would probly either be as much as any other problem involving the transmission (read: a lot of $$$) or it could be as much as a new shifter ($100) + labor at ur local shop. i dont kno if they need to replace just the shifter for the collar, or some part of the tranny. best thing u can do is do a little online research on shifters so u dont sound dumb to the techie when u go to the garage, and hope for a good quote. im not a expert on this though, just my 2 cents |

what if just change it to a short shifter? is it totally 2 different things or is the same? caz i was thinking of getting a short shifter, maybe that might solve my problem, o i was wondering maybe its my oil in the tranny caz i havnt check my oil and my car was sitting there for like 5 to 6 months

Re: cant shift
the shifter, as far as i kno, doesnt actually have the collar that i'm talking about on it. for instance, i did a search on google to find short shifter pictures, and i found this...
http://www.240sx.org/links/installs/...r/pmsshift.jpg actually gives you a good idea of where the collar is. See, the thing that makes me think its your collar is that ALL your gears are making that grinding, which would make sense if the device used to shift to ALL of them was messed up. and yea, if you've got a hunch it might be the tranny grinding caus of the oil, by all means go ahead and chek it out. cant hurt, right? u might even find somethin else that looks funny |
