1996 Jimmy trans issues

Back working on my stepson's 96 Jimmy again. Last week I replaced both of the transmission solenoids because it popped up a code P0758 solenoid B and was slipping, refusing to shift into 2nd, etc. Once the solenoids were replaced, it shifted/ran just fine. Yesterday morning the SES light came on as soon as I started it. Took it to my buddy to read the code and....P0758...but the thing seemed to shift OK. He erased the code and the light stayed off, so I'm thinking it was either a glitch or maybe some dirt went through the solenoid, and not a "hard" code. I changed the filter and put new fluid in when I installed the new solenoids by the way. I will say that the trans seems to shift really hard into 2nd and OD now, almost like my old street racing days when I'd put a radical shift kit in the turbo 350's.

Has anyone else had issues with popping the same code after the solenoids were replaced?

This is not the only issue the Jimmy has, but lets deal with one mess at a time.

Re: 1996 Jimmy trans issues

Well, no code for a week but I let it sit over the holiday weekend and it popped the same code as soon as I turned the key. Didn't start it, just turned the key on. Any ideas? Anybody?

Re: 1996 Jimmy trans issues

No issues at all with it shifting, other than shifting pretty hard into 2nd and overdrive, as I mentioned before. When I come to a red light or stop sign, and it comes down to a 600 rpm idle, it wants to stumble/hesitate just slightly when you initially give it gas to pull out, but never shuts off. I think it just needs some injector cleaner to fix that. I dont think thats tranny related at all.

Make sure the master plug on the trans is not corroded inside and seats properly to the trans. connector.

Re: 1996 Jimmy trans issues

I have to put it on jackstands this weekend anyway to look for fuel issue (VERY strong raw fuel odor after the tank is filled), so I'll check the connector and post back. thanks.
