AFM Active Fuel Management system

in the newer Chevrolet trucks, other people and i have experienced oil consumption, not burnt, not leaking just disapearing.

I have also seen on other forums where the newer chevrolets are having issues with this problem, in many cases leading to catastrophic engine failure when people do not continously watch their oil levels.

Dodge experienced similar issues with the HEMI motors that turned fuel off to cylinders. this initial shut off of fuel allows for a vacuum to be created in the cylinder housing that syphons oil into the cylinder from the oil reservoir around the rings. as the motor ages the over all oil consumption will also increase between oil changes.

Numerous people have purchased programmers trying to disable this function, unsure how many suceed, or which ones suceed at disabling the AFM system on Chevy trucks.

I have heard that a company called Range makes a device to perform just that function. Its price is about $200-250.

I purchased one this morning. I will leave more info later once it comes in. The device can be seen on a web sitee called auto anything . com i am not advcertising, but i though it might give some info in case someone else is having issues with oil consumption on a 5.3L vehicle with the Active Fuel Management system installed.

Re: AFM Active Fuel Management system

It does appear to reduce oil loss but does not erradicate oil loss completely. 3000 miles between oil changes wll require 1 quart of oil to be full 7500will be 2 quarts low with active AFM. Beware of Chevy vehicles with AFM. (4X4Junkie) old password lost, and that email is not active anymore. 115000 miles on truck now.

Re: AFM Active Fuel Management system

the damage has been done .. so the AFM delete widget does keep it running but still uses the 1 qt ./ 3K miles.. should prevent further damage.

you using dexos GM spec synthetic engine oil ? if not give it a try .

good since you purchased the vehicle new you know for sure it has been synthetic dexos approved engine oil.. next is you must plug in the AFM widget so the engine will always be in V8 mode from day one .. there is a lot of engines being damaged because of no afm plug in delete...

one forum member has a 2017 Silverado ... the Mexican that put the engine together dropped a bolt in the oil pan 492 miles.. engine blew up ...

dealership did not get him another new truck .. had to wait 3 weeks no truck but he was still paying for it..

engine blew up 400 miles from his home ...
