Re: Show us your F1 Memorabilia / F1 related items you've bought

That poster is defenitely huge find, that price!
I think that, you made good decision to put it on those frames. It's clear, simply and same collored than the car on the picture. Very nice! I like!

And those wheel nuts, how many today have something like those on the self at home? Great stuff!

By the way; now when you mentioned that location of that poster; could you possible have information where the XP1 LM press images have been taken? I mean these ones:
XP1 LM Press
XP1 LM Press

I have thoughts, that it might be somewhere near the McLaren's factory.
It defenitely was Autumn I think, near end of the 1995 Year. And the environment looks very much possible UK location?

Re: Show us your F1 Memorabilia / F1 related items you've bought

Well, hello. I thought I'd just add some pictures of my own collection of McLaren F1-bilia to the BIG archive here. While I would not be surprised if mine turns out to be the smallest collection here, in isolation I'm still pretty proud and happy of what's contained in it as it has been slowly amassed over the past 4 or 5 years using my preciously accumulated allowance money as I am still studying in University and don't yet hold a steady job.

With that said, I hope that you guys appreciate the images of this modest but passionate collection which I have to offer:

My 8 McLaren F1 models on their display shelf, dominated by the UT 1:18 models of F1 Le Mans XP1LM, and F1 GTR #12R.

There are other, even more car models on the shelves above and below this one, but as none of them are F1s I did not include them.

Models out of their cases, and a gathering of my favourite magazines containing feature articles of various McLaren F1s, topped off by my copy of Into The Red. This, in a nutshell, is everything in my collection. There are a few magazines that I left in Adelaide, South Australia where I study due to limited baggage space when I flew home, plus a couple others which I'm sure are lying around the place somewhere that I haven't had time to hunt down yet, but all my favourites are included and displayed here.

In the issue of Octane Magazine shown here, they were featuring what they felt were the best cars of every decade from 1900-2010. Naturally, the McLaren F1 Road Car clinched it for 1990's Decade, and that was the sole reason why I bought this issue. If they'd given it to any other car, I'd have burned the magazine and walked off with a stormy face....... such is my enthusiasm and passion for the McLaren F1.

Now for some thoughts. Most expensive item in my collection? The UT 1:18th model of XP1LM, by far!! Unfortunately the point in time when I really wanted this model was also the time when values of most McLaren F1 models were sky-rocketing in response to new demand. This being the best example that I could find on EBay, I had to send away just a smidge over 300 Euros to a shop in Germany for it!!! But when it finally arrived and I uncovered it for the first time, I was overjoyed and knew that every cent of my money had been well spent. Despite the obvious flaws and inaccuracies, the model arrived in perfect mint condition. Even the paintwork is flawless, with no fading, scratches, stains or dings anywhere on the bodywork.

Cheapest item? That issue of Octane Magazine with F1 GTR #06R bursting out of the front cover flanked by the black HDF-kitted Road Car and BMW Motorsport GTR Longtail. I paid all of 2 US Dollars for it, and it definitely falls into the best buys category as it features very well-written and insightful articles by Nick Mason, Gordon Murray, test and racing driver Mark Hales, Le Mans authority Brian Laban, and F1 specialist Dean Lanzante.

My favourite item? Most of you would assume the XP1LM model, but in actual fact it is a very close tie between that and the 1:18 #12R model which has another intruiging story behind it. I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted it sitting on a window-side shelf of a collectibles auctioneer and retailer shop about 20 minutes' drive from my house in 2008. It literally stopped me dead in my tracks! It also has to be one of the model bargains of the year as I paid just 34 US Dollars for it.

And finally, what's missing from my collection? Well, EVERYTHING out there!! Just off the top of my list however, I think that my collection seriously needs to have a model of the 1995 Le Mans-winning F1 GTR #01R in it. Unfortunately prices are once again rising and peaking at the moment, and it will in all likelihood be another 5-6 years before I can afford one of those.

Well it's been a pretty long, ranty post, hasn't it? I hope I didn't bore any of you, and that it conveyed at least some of the love, passion and enthusiasm that my brother and myself have for this amazing automobile.

Take care, and see ya soon.

Sami - sorry, I do not know where the LM press shots were taken.

Aston - that's a very nice collection. I like the display and no one should be 'bored' looking at it.

Yes - it has showed up at Cars & Coffee in Irvine two weeks in a row.

This might be the reason it is here or it could be a different car:

Aston:

What a nice collection you have there! Very nice, some magazines I have never seen. The GULF #33 #12R with XP1 LM is perfect.

I have said it here before, and say it now. There is no perfect model available, so I think what ever the manufacturer is, theya re good to have.
IXO's, Minichamps, what ever. Main thing is that you personaly like the livery or have something big feelings on it, like you have the #33 GULF.

Thanks for sharing!!

I don't know has this been here allready, but hope you don' mind if I upload this again. Some of my GTR collection, there is missing couple of ones. And Aston:
Never mind if you haven't the bigest collection. Can these kind of things be never fully ready!?
Main thing is, you buy what you like!

Seems I made a history! First time used Imageshack!

Erik :-

Thanks for posting up your wheel nut pics Very nice to view the internal locking wire clip. When I have a spare moment I,ll add my 97GTR version. Its sitting here on my desk, unlike the road cars alloy version, this is made from high grade steel, I use it as a very efficient paper weight .

Your poster is excellent, nicely framed as well. Never seen any available, I did have, an A2 poster of the clinic model 3/4 front in the slate mine. But gave it away to a very good friend to hang on his office wall.

Aston :-

What a colourfull collection you have acquired, very nice start, keep it up When you have time, would you be so kind to post up the F1 content from your "Sports Car International" magazine. Many thanks in advance.

Re: Show us your F1 Memorabilia / F1 related items you've bought

I've re-upped some of my pics from the 1st page as they have been deleted via photobucket

Some good things here - Erik, not jealous at all re the wheel nut and that poster is pretty special - I should really get round to framing my 10 or so posters (where'd the popcorn smiley go?)

AT - a nice collection of models, books and magazines

Lol, hahaha, that's the problem with these websites sometimes. Erik should be able to help you out, though.

*Powers up the F1-Man Signal Light and points it into the night sky*

Oh, do you mean the large number of pictures from the British Motor Show where XP1LM was being displayed alongside a Dark Grey SLR McLaren and a Black Mercedes C-Class DTM racer, under the Shell V-Power banner?

PS - Oh right, guys, I almost forgot to add. The place where I bought all my 1:43 scale F1 models, a Malaysian shop network called Nikko which specializes in supplying medium-to-high-end car scale models to collectors, was sadly closed down in the middle of 2009. I remember they even used to have a Minichamps 1:12 model of F1 Road Car XP5 in one of their branches' window displays, and I used to stop by and drool over it all the time, although at the 1000 US Dollar asking price I could never afford it. I think it was due to a severe lack of business especially during the heights of the economic crisis, and probably unable to meet cost and profit targets, the owners chose to close shop instead. So now I have to rely on international sources. With that said, my collection here could possibly be one of the last and greatest collections of F1 models in Malaysia. Just a little thought.
