All sound from speakers is gone.

I have a 2007 GMC Acadia. Last night I had the audio muted in the car and was talking to my passenger and the speakers started making a loud popping sound for about 30 seconds and then faded away as I drove off from a stoplight. Now I have no sound including the backup beeping. Any ideas?

Radio turns on and display looks normal just no sound.

Thanks.

Re: All sound from speakers is gone.

There are many possibilities from poor speaker connections to failed final outputs in the amplifier to a front-end control problem (with the muting/source switching) and many others. It would be best to check the simplest things first, like fuses.

If it is a base audio system it will be simpler. There should be at least two fuses feeding the radio, one 15A Radio fuse and the 20A Inst fuse.

If it is a premium sound system and/or satellite radio it will be more complex. If the vehicle was fitted with a subwoofer and/or separate amplifier, satellite radio, video system, rear seat controls, or any navigation equipment there will be more fuses, more modules, and more wiring. If there is also a factory video entertainment system with rear seat controls it can get even more intense, involving the controls, software over-rides, CAN bus connections, etc.

There could be the Inst fuse, the 15A Radio fuse, a 10A Infotainment fuse, a 30A Amp fuse, the CAN bus for the steering wheel and rear seat controls, the harness between the radio and separate Digital Radio receiver module, the harness to the digital Video (DVD) head, the harness between the radio and the Video display module, and the regular power and speaker wiring. Of course, it could involve any one or some off those modules as well.

That's why I suggested starting with the simple things.

May be wires are eaten by rats.
