Um I have had 17 18 and 19" rims, Its the size of the rims that increase and as it does, the lower the profile tire usually. So overall they are the same size wheels....................... Well on public roads anyway.

the wheel size doesn't matter, the tyre size does. it's the rolling circumfrence that you use in the calculations. and unless your tyres have had the same rolling circumfrence then there's a difference in the gearing.

so, what gears do you have, what's the final drive and what's the engine's maximum rpm?

I now know alot more about the subject than I cared for, but I just like the fact that a girl knows more about your car than you do.

One flaw in that: Steve Millen does a lot of work in New Zealand, though not as far as I am aware with Mitsubishis and cannot recall him ever driving one in the Targa Tasmania. As far as I'm aware , Millens work was only ever performed on 25 Primeras and around-about 100 Maximas that came off the Assembly line at Nissans Wiri (South Auckland) plant, though he's probably tuned a few private customer cars as well...

Steve has done some work with Toyota - he did a truck for The Race to the Sky but didn't turn up last year (I think it's based on Baja racer). And his workshop was based in California where he lives.

He did some 300ZX's a few years ago too... the Nissan Maximas were licenced to use the Stillen name and he did work on the prototype car but the assembly was outsourced to a crowd in Auckland after they were completed on the CKD assembly line which is long gone...

Last time I went 100 in 2nd gear it was in my brother's 1971 Chrysler Newport. Of course it's got a 3 speed transmission and 3.55 rear end. Shifts into 3rd at about 120. And chirps the tires.

I did reach the top speed in my Ford, though i can't temember it.

Fastest i've gone otherwise is either in a Saab 9-3 Viggen 2.3T or a Volvo 760 2.8. both around 120-125mph.

Can you tell us some detailed history of the car?
Who prepared it for the Targa Tasmania?
How far did they get in the preparation?
Was it ever raced?
What condition was it in when you got it?
How did you get hold of it?
Why is it now a road legal car and not a race car?
What other prep was done to it?
Is it a NZ new car or a Jap import?
Where did you do 290kph on NZ roads?


The idea of 500+hp GTO is not all that unusual, nor is the idea of such a car being prepared for a Targa event.
The idea that an ex-race car is now a road legal car is not all that unusual either.
The idea that some guy on an internet forum living in New Plymouth happens to own such a car is possible, but getting to be unlikely.
But, a few details would clear it up. This wouldn't be the first such situation Iv seen that turned out to be quite real.
