Thumbs up Smart Roadster !

I just tried the new Smart Roadster 61hp this afternoon. Very fun. Not fast on the figures (only 165kmh max speed : 105mph, 0-100kmh : 15sec, 0-60mph : 14sec), but good sensations : good thing with all the radars which are making here !
It's a real goKart, quite comfy for this kind of car. I'm thinking of repacing my Alfa 156 by a Smart Rodster for 4 or 6 months before buying something bigger (BMW 5 Series, Peugeot 607, Audi A6 or Alfa 166).
There's also a 82hp version available, but begins at 20 000 €. The performances are better of course (185kmh, 0-100 : 10sec).

The best with this car is maybe the handling of a gokart : exciting by taking speedly some curves on little roads.

I dont like the original shape smarts but that roadster thing is low and looks funky. I think it would seriously make a fun car to drive and I am sure you can tune them up and mess about with the styling to create a radical little play thing.

I don't know how fun a car under 100 HP can be. The styling isn't bad, and it is a good idea. I just would never want one.

My hillman Imp has an uprated engine and still only pushes out maybe 75 bhp but it is a great car to drive. Handles like it's on rails. Might not accelerate as quick but rear wheel drive and light so pulls away without lighting up the tyres and nothing much can catch it on the bends. Took it on a track day and I was over taking BMW M3's on the end of straights and then loosing them round the bends and was enough to give the distance required for them not to catch me on the next straight so I was pulling away from them. They didn't seem to like that, lol.

One guy came over to find out what engine I had put in it and he was stunned to hear it was a 930cc.

Just proved small cars can be just as fun as the big boys.

Re: Re: Smart Roadster !

SupermanCar doesn't seem to having driven a small car. In the USA, this kind of car is quite rare.
But first of all, 300 Europeans horses and 300 american's are not the same.
Secondly, a car of 400pounds (790 Kg) with 82hp and so near of the bottom than a Smart roadster, can bring you a lot of fun, more than an MX5 (Miata) or a Z3 2.2.
And this kind of little roadster is excellent on roads with curves and curves and curves and also in European towns like Paris, Roma, London, Geneva, Frankfürt, etc.

Re: Smart Roadster !

All i can say is buy a gokart, you won't be laughed at as much and avoid looking like some silly tart looking for something cute rather than quality

Re: Smart Roadster !

The Smart cars are not sports cars.
But it sure is a FUN car, with great handling, and mini mini-sized, which is perfect for crowded and high gas price areas, like Europe and Asia.

Re: Re: Smart Roadster !

Finally, I bought a BMW 525tds Pack Luxe (04/1998). I'll reveive it Friday (16/01).
The Smart is very fun to drive, fixed at the road and the perfs are not poor for the engine. But of course, on an highway, you won't overpass 100mph, that's not enough for long trips. But in Paris it's a wonderfull car ! Very fast at low speeds (under 65mph).
Though, I like this car
