1994 Signature Series Town Car with transmission issue
94 model with 64k miles. Recently the car started to randomly shift from OD to 3 and back again. No rumble strip feeling. No engine light. OD light doesn't flash. Just shifts that feel normal, but way too many of them, and only happens at random intervals.
The MLPS is working as it should, and is aligned properly. The TPS ( FILPS ) checks as a textbook example. The only issue that I found was an alarming amount of ATF saturating the solenoid pack plug, and the harness plug. Now, in my mind this leak is likely caused by a seal or O ring that has perished, randomly allowing fluid pressure to fluctuate, causing the intermittent random shifts. What are your thoughts on this issue?? |

Re: 1994 Signature Series Town Car with transmission issue
It's possible that the ATF leak you discovered is related to the intermittent shifting problem. If the fluid is saturating the solenoid pack plug and the harness plug, it may be causing intermittent electrical issues or affecting the solenoid pack's operation. This, in turn, could cause the random shifts you're experiencing.
Here are a few steps you can take to address the issue: Clean the connectors: Remove the ATF from the solenoid pack plug and the harness plug, and clean the connectors with electrical contact cleaner. Inspect the wiring: Check the wiring around the solenoid pack and the harness plug for any signs of damage or wear. If you find any issues, repair or replace the wiring as needed. Replace the solenoid pack gasket or O-ring: Since you suspect a seal or O-ring may have perished, consider replacing the gasket or O-ring to prevent further fluid leaks. Check the transmission fluid level: Make sure the transmission fluid is at the correct level. Low transmission fluid can cause shifting issues, so if you find it's low, top it up with the recommended ATF.
