Unless Tamiya explains the reason or someone else knows the purpose, it seems like the frosted finish may just be a poor decision on their part.

they're probably aiming for a textured finish even after painting (although you can still make a textured finish just by underthinning the paint or spraying too far, lol). although i am not too familiar with the actual car's underchassis finish.

tamiya did put in frosted clear parts on some of their kits too, like the lanevo6 rallycar (new zealand rally).

Upon examining the actual frosted clear bottom part, I have noticed that the outside of the part is in fact glossy, while the inside of the part is frosted. So paint adhesion is probably not the reason for the frosted finish. I have noticed that there is some swirling and other irregularities going on throughout the part itself, so maybe the frosting is there to disguise that.

I got some paint and clear on my 300SL today and I have to say, I'm impressed by how well those doors fit.
