Wow, what a great job!! You must build military alot. That weathering is
very nice. It almost looks real.

Well, any thread with your name on it Rob, you know it's going to be something spectacular. From just the first page I learned 3 things I had no idea about before. The fuel tank weathering is amazing, but no matter what part or piece I look at, the final result is really something to behold.

Daniel,
I just use a plain square pattern fabric like Eric suggested in his 'how-to' thread. Here's the link again.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ght=Fiberglass
The rough finish on the other parts is from the lacquer/ stiff bristled brush effect described earlier.

I've also made some progress on the chassis / interior tub. I added weld seams and tape based on some reference pictures as well as some photoetched parts from the SMS set.

Then painted and weathered it again based on some reference pictures I've seen of the car as it raced. I really love the race cars from this era because they were so rough and raw. None of the clinically clean presented cars of today.

I've also started on the dash

More soon!

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Porsche 935 with SMS detail set

That is so true about restored cars. Any production based Group 5 car had heavy new welds on top of the factory welding. I remember seeing a Porsche 908/3 with an all new perfect fiberglass tub. It almost made me laugh. The rat like Porsche fiberglass from the 1960's-1970's was very crude looking.

Great build. I wish you lived closer to Chicago. I would love to see this at the Ferrari Expo model contest(not just Ferrari's).

Great build so far. The engine is a real masterpiece, the turbo looks like a well used real thing.
