Trick for swapping wheel studs on the front aluminum hubs...

The may be common knowledge, but I figured I'd post it to help save someone some elbow grease. The back of the hub has a ridge to located it in the rotor hat so you can't just clamp it in a vise. I finally figured out that using a piece of wood and a towel did the trick. The wood deforms around the ridge so you can clamp the hub tight w/o damaging it. Made pulling in fresh studs much easier on the 2nd hub than the first. On the first I lightly clamped it in the vise using towels and tried to hold the hub from rotating while I did the first stud. After the first was in you can use the stud to help prevent the hub from wanting to rotate. Using the wood block made it 100X easier.

Also found laying the hub on two pieces of wood (one under each side) allowing the center to remain up off the ground worked best for hammering the studs out. On the first hub I set it on a towel on the ground but some of the hammer energy would make the hub tilt to the side. Putting it on the wood blocks stopped any side to side tilt and allowed the hammer blow to be more effective on the really stubborn studs. If I had a shop press it'd be easier but I don't have one of those. I'd never use a press to install them as they can get pushed in cockeyed. I much prefer pulling the studs in with washers and an spare lug threaded on backward.
