01 Malibu cranks but wont start

I have an 01 Malibu that I bypassed the pass lock system on about 2 years ago. Since then I have never had a problem with it starting until last night.

I will walk through what I have done so far and see if anyone has suggestions.
Car ran fine to the store, I come out and it cranks and cranks and cracks. It started once or twice but the RPMs were terribly low ~300 and then stalled. Now just cranks.

I did all the little tricks I could think of like smacking bottom of fuel tank, switching fuel pump relay with no luck.

Sprayed starting fluid and it started and ran rough until all the fluid was gone and then died.

I was thinking it could be a crank position sensor, fuel filter or fuel pump. I have not been able to get a second person to turn key to listen for pump whine yet.

Has anyone had this issue with a crank position sensor? All my searching seams to come back to the pass lock issue, but I really don't think that is the issue since I bypassed it so long ago and have had no issue. I even tried the 10min wait with the key in ACC. in case i was wrong.

Thanks

Re: 01 Malibu cranks but wont start

Came home today to work on it and it started right up and ran well. It has no codes. Turned it off and it would not start again. Checked the valve on the fuel rail and there is no pressure. Fuel filter or fuel pump?

Since the car started with starting fluid, the crank sensor is ok......either injectors are not firing(security problem), or no fuel pressure......since no pressure at the rail, it's the pump, not the filter, thought the filter should be replaced if the pump is replaced......

If you have power at the tank, need a pump.....

Re: 01 Malibu cranks but wont start

Please help. I replaced the fuel pump and filter today and the car still won't start. I cycled the key to get fuel in the line and to the rail and tested the schrader valve and a steady stream of gas came out but the car wouldn't run except on starting fluid. Any ideas I can try tomorrow?

Re: 01 Malibu cranks but wont start

I just checked the schrader valve again and there is no fuel in the rail. Could it be the fuel pressure regulator is stuck open and not enough pressure builds up for the injectors to atomize the fuel?

Sure you have power at the fuel pump harness?

Don't use starter fluid, use carb cleaner....less dangerous.....

Don't go by fuel streams....get a fuel pressure gage on that schraeder valve......
