Question Anybody here own a Yugo?

Does anybody here actually own a Yugo? - or do you just criticize them and make fun 'cause you have nothing better to do?

I own a Yugo - a 1988 GVX 1300.
This was the "sporty" Yugo - only 1500 imported and for 1988 only.
It's a fast, ugly bugger. Unlike the common Yugo it has a 1300cc engine.
Which depending on who you ask makes 61 or 67hp - this is in a car originally designed for a 45hp engine!

Nothing spectacular - just cool to see the expressions on the other drivers face when the Yugo pulls ahead of them (it's just as cool to see his face when he first spots the yugo - you know he's thinking "that thing is still running!?")

So you don't like yugos? so what!

My second car was a Yugo 45 Handihatch

Worst car I've ever driven- agonisingly slow for a start and I honestly thnk they just took the springs out of Bic biros and called it suspension- the car was unsettled and the ride was awful. The thing was ugly as sin and people laughed like hell at it when I pulled up to school in it. Overtaking is a luxury the Yugo never enjoyed- Living in NZ- the land of logging trucks and cattle trucks- I was never able to get to the 120km/h required to overtake the trucks that the FIAT Unos and VW Golfs (The cars primary Euro-rivals) approached with ease.

I was also constantly stranded because the damn thing either coughed out- or plain didn't start. In fact I think I must have changed the timing belt 6 times in 120,000 km, the spark plugs 7 times and then the whole motor just blew at which point I decided to flog it off.

I kept the POS until I was 26- because no-one would buy it off me- So I ended up rolling it down a bank.............

While it was on fire

The Yugo 45 wasn't sold in the U.S. - only the Yugo 55 (known here as the GV) and the GVX, which I'm not sure if that was sold anywhere but the U.S. - though maybe europe too.

I myself wouldnt ever claim to have owned a Yugo, even if I at one time had. But that's just me, not sure of everyone else.

that's just you...

Why wouldn't you own up to owning the most notorious hatchback of all time?
I own several "lemons" Subaru 360s included - if only because they smoked when brand new. The 360 is a great car - the Yugo isn't. But it is not as bad as alot of people think.
