Unhappy 2000 alero 2 lights on

Intermitentnly my service engine soon light and low trac light come on together and the car bogs down like it is going to die. Seems to happen when its wet outside. Had it in shop many times and no one knows what it is. Any ideas???

Re: 2000 alero 2 lights on

Welcome to AF.

It sounds like you have a problem related to the enhanced traction control system (ETS). Was this a SES/CEL light or SVS light? Did the shop put it on a scanner and what are the DTC codes?

You could have a problem with one of the front wheel sensors, related wiring or EBTCM module. When ETS senses one or both front wheels are spinning or losing traction engine power will be reduced and the autotransaxle upshifted to limit wheel spin. Even though the wheels may not be actually spinning or losing traction a bad wheel sensor lo output could cause your problem.

maybe its a faulty abs sensor. there should be one for each wheel. mine was on for the passenger front wheel abs sensor.

Re: 2000 alero 2 lights on

I think if it was falty, there should be some codes. I know the hand held scanners sometimes dont give all the codes, go to the dealership, let them put it on there computers. There computers usually give all the codes. I had check engine lights come on, and had it scaned on my hand held, and nothing, but went to the dealership, they had the codes. Just my 2 cents.

if you read the manual the service engine soon light blinking does indicate a misfire condition
