What a rotten car
I have just had my 2000 Lincoln serviced for the ##@#$@# time. These are things that went wrong - cooling system - hot air was coming out of the cooling system over $500, heater in seat- first time, coils - you must replace all 8 - over $1000. After having four replaced one, by one. Cup holder broke, seater wouldn't heat - second time - over four days to repair. Suspension bar on the front went bad - over $400. I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. Before you buy - beware. I was told that after the first year they worked some of the kinks out. It has been a terrible vehicle for me. I have called the Lincoln hot line to no avail. Too much money for this piece of crap.

What a rotten car
I am sorry that you have had these problems. I on the other hand have had great luck with both of our LS's. The only reason I say both is that the first one was in a terrible accident and was totaled. The only reason that I got a second one was the fact that my wife is probably alive today because the way the LS handled the crash (she walked away w/out having to go to the hospital ). There wasn't a question what car we were going to buy after that crash. The first LS we had was a LS 6 premimum 02 that we bought in Dec. of 01 and the second is a 02 LS 8 sport bought in Oct. 02. If anyone would like to see pictures of the wrecked LS you can email me and I will email them back.

Re: What a rotten car
mlnash, your experiences are somewhat unusual. The windows and seats have been a known problem for sometime and should have been fixed right the first time. The regulators in the rear windows were redesigned twice to fix the failure. THe seat heating elements were also revised. The cooling system was probably a bad mixing valve...also a known issue.
The "suspension bar". You mean the sway bar? How could this break!?! You sure it was actually broken and not just noisy? There is known problem with the front and rear sway bar bushings wearing and causing a "clunking" sound. That should not cost $400 to repair. The parts are like $20. Were none of these problems covered under warranty? They all should have been. Only the very earliest or fairly high mile LS's are out of warranty. Sounds like your service department is screwing you, dude. I have a July '99 V8 Sport and wouldn't trade it for anything. I've had no major issues but my service department is still weak. That's not Lincoln's fault, though. |

Just out of curiosity, did the dealership fix and/or explain why there was hot air coming from the vents?
I'm aware of the heating unit failing in the seats - it has to do with a power wire being stretched across the lumbar. Kind of a dumb design, but even though my own is broke too - I'm not going to get wound up about that. Hey, you're worrying me about the front sway bar - what went bad, and what did it take to fix it? I've got to empathise with you about these troubles, it can't make for enjoyable ownership. Then again, my own LS has given me a few minor iritations as well, but that's to be expected from just about any car, right? Loving my LS . Thanks, and sorry for pestering you .
