Question Stalling Issues

I have a 86 corona thats been having issues in the cold weather. Starting the car isnt an issue, but in cold mornings when i get it started, the idle is crap and i have to put my foot on the accelerator for many minutes to warm it up.

And when it warms up sometimes ill start driving it and it will stall when i stop at a round about or traffic lights. When i drive it for a few minutes on a straight road on 80km/h its fine, but it really annoys me and could cause an accident.

I took it to a mechanic and told him the issue, he said it was a choke issue and he replaced the spark plugs, put in a new fuel filter and air filter. This helped the situation a but, but it still crap in the cold. Any ideas????

My email addy is andrew_zakhary@hotmail.com
and i do have msn messenger if youd like to add me if its complicated and stuff, thanks heaps guys!

Re: Stalling Issues

How are the distributor cap, rotor and wires? Have you inspected the inside of the cap? You might try misting the wires and cap with a spray bottle filled with water. Do this in the dark while the engine is running and look for arcing.
FWIW
YMMV

Edited to note..

I didn't realize this post was so old, but the information is generic and still valid, though not likely to the OP.

Re: Stalling Issues

I've had the same problem, and have rebuilt the carb, replaced vacuum hoses, sealed off EGR valve, and still have problem. New plugs....

Re: Stalling Issues

Hi I have a 88 Corona. Unfortunately, I do not have the answer but rather an almost similar problem. She starts fine when cold but does not idle when warm. When she cuts out, she does not restart untill she is cold again. The problem used to be intermittent but is now constant. Any suggestions?
