McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail
Hi everyone,
moving onto my next project I'm going to have a crack at the GTR long tail version from Aoshima. I'm ordering the full carbon decal set from S27 and will also have a photo etch set too. I'll also try to add as much in the way of wiring and hoses in the interior and the engine bay. Luckily I have heaps of reference photos and a couple of great inspirational builds from Sam01Contact and Dieteufel to help me along the way. As for livery wise, I'm actually going to stick with the test version. Maybe later on I'll do another with the Lark livery as that's my favorite. I've only just started so all I've done is start preparing the body by scribing out the panel lines and sand any mold lines away. Engine block has also had a coat of aluminium. |

Nice work. But I don't like you put decals on a non-gloss body surface. This could give you troubles later on.

I've already clear coated the upper engine cover and the roof intake and have had no issues. Have you experienced troubles before with gloss over non-gloss?

Quick update on this one;
Unfortunately I had issues with the clear reacting with the black base coat in areas (looked like the primer was coming through from underneath) so I'll have to strip it back and start the body again. I've gone with this livery below which is produced by Tabu design. From my research this is chassis number 25 that had previously raced at Le Mans in the Gulf livery. It was the one that was heavily damaged by fire, sent back to the McLaren Factory, repaired and resprayed white. Hitotsuyama Racing team bought it and raced it right up until 2005 in the JGTC/Super GT championship (you may have seen it in the Yellow Corn scheme with the bigger aero kit. It's apparently now for sale for around $18 million. In the meantime I'm working on finishing up the details on the engine bay, will post up pics when I'm finished. |
