McLaren MP4/5B Progress Thread *ON HOLD*

While I wait for the paint to dry/cure on my Hayabusa, I thought I'd get started on my first F1 kit, the McLaren 4/5B. I'm relatively new to the world of F1, so I'm requesting your help in finding some reference photos or sites for the 1990 F1 season in which the car was raced, I know there are a lot of F1 fans on this board so if any of you could help me out I would really appreciate it.

Also, for those of you who have built this kit, the parts A15 and A14 can be built in three ways - what were the reasons for changing the size of the panel, and at which races did they do it? Also, the part A13 is optional (looks like a little wing to the right and behind the driver), what was its purpose, and when was it installed? Thanks a lot

Of course, this will be done in Senna's variation Already ordered the Marlboro S27 decals from Wong at MediaMix Hobby

The little wing like thing on the right behind driver is the In Car Camera.

Not only a F1 fan, but also Team McLaren member, since the official fan club was launched in 1995. I'm pretty well documented, so if you need some pics, let me know and I'll see if I can get things scanned etc. Just post a request, send a pm or e-mail, whatever.

Cheers,

good luck with the MP4/5b.
As for the side panels, looks like it was for different degrees of cooling depending one the race.
Like Gavkiwi says, check out the forix.com, do a search for that year tyou will see the difference between the races.
here's a pic of my finished model.

Hi Del-R,

That's a sweet looking McLaren .Very nice finished. Did you paint the red or used decals?

Cheers,

Guido

btw. I think Daggerlee has changed his mind on doing his MP4/5 and that he's on a other project for the moment.

I painted it, I'm not a great fan of large decals.

Are you sure this is the first F1 model you build?
