10 or 12 inch subs???

i want one of the higher end eclipse subs... any ideas on which one i should go with? but my question is should i get 2 10s or 1 12? i want some good bass, but 2 12s are too heavy and i don't want to buy an amp big enough to push those. so i was leaning more towards 1 12? anyone think 2 10s are better? thanks!

the 2 10" have more cone area over the 1 12" so 2 10" is louder. but the 12" may play lower notes...i would opt for the 2 10" though..

For great sound quality and bigger pound, the 2 10's is a good choice because you do have more cone area (2x10": 157.0796 in^2 vs. 1 12": 113.0973 in^2... almost 40% increase in cone area). I'm not exactly sure as to how that translatea to decibels or sound pressure level but, it is a considerable amount to notice a difference. However, just make sure you feed these puppies enough juicy-juice.

1. Double the wattage
2. Double the cone area
3. Double the excursion (amount the woofer moves in and out)

= 3dB gain

Thats a general rule of thumb and cant be applied all the time. But if you want good bass, do what everyone is suggesting and go with two tens. I was gonna go with two tens, till I decided it wasnt over the top.., then I decided on, ah crap forgot cant tell you guys yet

i have 1 eclipse 15', have u listened to those? it plays extremely deep and still hits really sharply, not cloudy like most 15's. i never wanted a 15 till i heard this one, now its my fav sub ive ever had! 2 10's would prob hit harder, but its not gonna play as deeply.

Ya... I was gonna say, "... about 3dB." I was about to go strictly by the numbers but, I got lazy.

Anyway... spill! You don't leave people hangin, do ya! :finger:

Alright thanks a lot all. well it looks like i'll be getting to 10 inch eclipse. i've heard them before and they pound hard! they sound really good. so i should be happy with them. any more opinions would be nice and if anyone knows good model numbers for 10 inch eclipse that would help too. thanks again!

i have 4 twelves...and they are excessive..im prolly gonna sell em (someone said they'll give me 800 for my entire setup, 4 twelves, 1600w amp, cap, box)
so i'll sell em, replace em with a couple/few 10s" probably...10s hit quicker
