Warmbold Davenport, BMW 2002 Hasegawa
I always admired the BMW 2002 for it's pure and strong "sharknose" look. The recent Hasegawa kit captures the look perfectly and the quality of the kit is really good. There are many versions from Hasegawa and many aftermarket decals from Studio27 but none of them represents the wide body version which succeded in few rallies at the beginning of the 70's. I started to build the 1972 Rally Portugal winner car, which managed to fend off the Renault Alpine armada and win the rally. The car was driven by Achim Warmbold with his copilot John Davenport - author of many rally books. Although the 2002 didn't make much impact on the rallying world, had some success in Portugal, Poland and the much controversial Austrian Alpenfahrt rally.
I started the kit a week ago and have some photos of the progress so far. |

Very nice start. Love it when you give a bit of history to your builds as well.

Overall I'm quite impressed by the rims: is this laser cutting? The result is superb. Aren't those rims 4 spokes camagnolo, like the fulvia's one?

Re: Warmbold Davenport, BMW 2002 Hasegawa
Hi Gio, yes, the rims supposed to be the same Carmagnolos as the Fulvia has. I draw the base in two pieces and it was laser cut from 0.5 plexi which looks close to the original.in my eyes. Now I have to find a good early 70's treaded asphalt Pirelli. Do you know any tyre, that type?

Re: Warmbold Davenport, BMW 2002 Hasegawa
Little update on the BMW, I finished the interior, added some doorhandle, windowcrank and chrom stip to the doorpanels and changed the rear part of the rollcage according to my references. Now the fun part begins, shaping the wheelarches.

Re: Warmbold Davenport, BMW 2002 Hasegawa
Some update on the BMW, I managed to do some work on the fenders. According to my references, both front and rear fenders has a beautiful complex curved shape. The shape is not there yet but getting close.

Thank you Chris! I would love to make some copies of the body but unfortunately I have neither time nor capacity to do that. I think I saw that there will be the widebody available from Scaleproduction soon. |
