2006 kia rio wont keep running after initial start up
Hello. I just put a new battery in 2006 Kia Rio. It starts fine now but shuts off right when foot is taken off gas pedal. What would cause this problem?

Re: 2006 kia rio wont keep running after initial start up
when did it stop working? was the old battery dead? did you have this problem before you changed the battery?
It could be low fuel pressure, low fuel volume, intake valve deposits, or contaminated fuel, or a restricted fuel injector. If you keep the pedal pressed till car is warmed up more, does it still stall? |

Re: 2006 kia rio wont keep running after initial start up
Thanks for the reply. Here is more info. : The car wouldnt start on friday. Battery appeared to be very weak or dead. Didnt have a problem before changing battery. Checked the oil in vehicle and it was very low so added that too. Warmed the car foe ten minutes and it still shut off after letting go of gas pedal. Is there a fuel pump shut off that needs resetting or something of that nature?

Re: 2006 kia rio wont keep running after initial start up
I cannot think of why you would have to reset it, but everything is possible. I am not sure where your inertia switch would be, but your owners manual should tell you where it is located. If not, let me know and I will look for it on motor.alldata tomorrow.
Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? with that you would be able to tell if there are any problems with your fuel pump. If not...if you put a funnel into your gas tank you can listen to see if your fuel pump is at least trying to pump fuel, while someone else is turning the key on, engine off. I do not think the fuel pump is turned off for safety measures because if the fuel pump is off, you would not be able to keep your car on, pushing the accelerator or not. Do you have a voltmeter? If so, you could always check for a short or a bad ground somewhere. Hope this helps! |

I'm sorry to say this, but I was not able to get to a computer with motor alldata. I can try tomorrow, but cannot guarantee it

Thanks for the assistance. I took the car to kia dealer and after much searching they found that the idle actuator was sticking shut.
