Re: Who here builds and plays with Real cars ?

If by play with you mean work on, I spent the better part of the day under the M3 changing the freaking O2 sensor....

But I definately find that working on my own cars helps my modeling- at least as far as detailing. Once you've changed a starter motor, you'll never leave one as a random bump on a model engine.

Someday (hopefully in the next couple of years), I want to build a Caterham. And then an exact replica from the Tamiya 1/12 kit.

The position of the starter on our cars SUCKS! When I did my lightweight flywheel/sachs clutch I had to contort my arm to undo those Etorx. Ugh!

This is my toy:

I was installing these:

Can't disagree with you there! Fortunately, I haven't had to do my starter yet- but lately my wife's car eats a starter every 12 or so months- I've replaced it three times.

But I will take a plug job on mine any day over her transverse V6!

Where the f*ck do you do your work?? That floor lift would have saved me alot of swearing today!

Here is my big "model". Still a work in progress. It was a mess when I bought it!

And of course, my pride and joy....one of 39 in white:

Re: Who here builds and plays with Real cars ?

It's no BMW or Firehawk ('cause I'd be really sad if it were):

It probably doesn't look like much more than you're regular poseur Civic that cruises around acting badder than it is, but it's a surprisingly capable autocrosser:

No motor work yet, but what I've built into it so far has been a pretty serious suspension set up (ahem, wheel up in the last pic?). I beat GSRs, WRXs, STis, and Evos and whatever else STS or STX can dole out pretty handily (STU and SM are a different story!). Unfortunately, my stiffest competition in this region is a Saturn SC2. Wtf's up with that?!

Anyway, that's what I build and play with. It's certainly gotten out of hand, too, and is gotten to be almost unlivable on the street. Good thing I car pool!

BTW, Mike your BMW is hot as crap though anything I'd worry after so much that I'd tape paper over the fender is a little too high-maintenance for me!

Hawk, your Pontiac is gorgeous. I'd reckon it a beast - what've you done to it?

Re: Who here builds and plays with Real cars ?

Here's mine. Had it for two years and done very little though. I've started sanding the body down. I'm going to bare metal and doing a full restoration. I project in 3 years to be complete.

I have one of these too which is in almost excellent condition. I want to get it back to looking like its out the factory. (This isn't my one, but looks almost identical). I have upside down forks and a white front muguard and black mirrors.

Good luck for your rebuild! I started mine 10 years ago. It took me 5 years until it was finished. Could be exactly the speed I build models

And thats mine! I took the photo last year in summer.

Re: Who here builds and plays with Real cars ?

Man that looks awesome! I nearly got one of these instead of the Lancia. Thanks for sharing and giving me some motivation!
I'd love for you to PM me for some tips and techniques if you don't mind.

Re: Who here builds and plays with Real cars ?

HOLY CR*P WILLIMO!

That Civic looks awesome!

Sometimes I play with this little (actually, not so much) one...

Got a quite strong engine! Has some nice torque!
This is my brother's car,but sometimes he lets me play with it!
The only thing I don't like this car it's the wheels. I alredy told my brother "Lose the wheels, get some 5 spokes!"
Nope...
But you get used to it,and it looks quite nice! I'm even making a 1/24 model of it...

Andy: How come no M3 pics?!

Re: Who here builds and plays with Real cars ?

@willimo: I thinks rod_k2 is right with the wheels. They are great. Nice to see that you are using your Civic the best way. But it scared me to see you driving in front of a Mortuary.

Your BMW is a real keeper Mike. I see them often at the Nurburgring and they are really fast.

Re: Who here builds and plays with Real cars ?

I try to play as much as I can with these four.

They are Formula SAE cars that we build at the university. All got 600cc turbo charge bike engines and wight between 200 and 260 kg.

Here is me driving the first car we build five years ago. This thing is really a beast and one of the most fun cars I have driven.

I have this one in my garage now. It's not working at the moment, but the goal is to be able to drive it as soon as the weather here in Sweden gets better.
So that should mean that I have around three and a half mounths to get it working.

My last Toy, was very partial to spending hours removing/cleaning/replacing parts!
