Re: autolite 2100 carb question......

This car has a hot air type choke. Right below the choke housing, on the intake manifold, you should see a tiny hole. This is connected to the exhaust cross over passage in the manifold.

As you may know, exhaust gases are used to keep teh intake manifold warm. This provides better fuel vapourization in the intake passages.

If the hot air tube is missing, its easy to make one. Just get a short piece of steel brake line, usually 3/16 inch, and brass fittings to attach it to the carb. Cut and bend the line to fit, and use the brass fittings to screw it to the carb choke housing and the intake manifold.

Hi, speed1975, If you still have a choke problem, Take the intake manifold off and clean out the crossover exhaust passage under the carb base, It has to be all cloged up with carbon,,,,old thread, old car, old timeers response, See Ya, Clay....

Re: autolite 2100 carb question......

The 65 galaxies had two tubes going to the pass side exhaust manifold to get heat for the choke, there is some vacumn that comes from the choke thermostat housing that sucks the heat from the manifold. One tube bolts to the choke thermostat housing and goes into the manifold and the other comes from the manifold to the top of the carb, the heat air is drawn from the top of the carb down through the manifold and into the choke thermostat. I have a exhaust manifold from a 65 289 that still has the two tubes and could possibly have a manifold from a 352/390 that still might have the tubes. Jeff

The first two were probably referencing a 260. Since it was 16 years ago for the first post, this would only help anyone in the future. My prime guess it was a 390 and agree junkyarddawg had it correct.

being new to this forum I didn't even realize these posts were dated or that they were that old, thank you for pointing that out I guess I should be more observant also I haven't even seen a 221 or 260 in many years and haven't worked on one since the 1960's and if you remember them that well I bow to your knowledge.
