Question engine power loss, rough noice in engine clicking,

I have a 99 Mustang when I was driving it around town I noticed a load ticking coming from the engine didn't really think anything of it just thought it needed a quick tune up, later on the same day I took it on the freeway and that loud ticking got worse the faster I got I probably got up to 60mph and it sounded like a lawn mower was going off in my engine at the same time I experienced a total loss of power from the engine I just can't figured out what it could be. Any ideas?
