Smelling Gas in the cab?

Sup fellas, Ive been recently smelling gas in the cab of my car and I cant figure out what in the world it is. I also noticed that when I turn my car off I can smell it coming from my drivers side fender. Im guessing fuel pressure regulator. But any imput would help I also smell it hardcore when I make a hard right turn or a prolonged right turn. I drive a 1995 Nissan 300zx N/A. Thanks

Re: Smelling Gas in the cab?

your fuel filter is on the drivers side top of the wheel well. it is all to common for the hoses leading to the filter to start to come lose from the filter and leak a bit, expecialy when it starts to get cold. Common problem with all Z32s. Easy fix, get a phillips head screw driver and check everyone of the clamps that head to the filter and from the filter to the engine and tighten them and then have someone turn the key to the "Run" position (position 2) while you look for seepage from the lines. If you see any take a close look see if its the line starting to fail or just a lose clamp. In my case it was a couple of lose clamps, tightened them down, no more leaks or gas smell. I also have a 95 AT NA.

One more thing if its not coming from there tighten them anyway and start checking all the lines under the car to the lump behind the seats, that shelf. Below that cent cover peice is your fuel pump, check to see if the smell isnt coming from there too. Odds are its not, if it is you would smell it ALL THE TIME.

Hope this helps.

Re: Smelling Gas in the cab?

If Its Like The Older Z's And 240sxs On The Fuel Filler Neck There Is A Little Plastic Connector That Tends To Crack With Age. This Connector Lets Gas Pour Out And Evaporate In Side The Car Which Could Produce That Smell. You May Want To Check There And Replace It With A Metal Tube (got Mine For Home Depot For $1.25 In Brass - Doesn't Rust).
