2002 ZR2 Puking Trans Oil from Top of Trans down the Left Side onto Exhaust
Hi All
My Son's 02 ZR2 had Trans Fluid Puking out from the Top of the Transmission on the Left Side as the oil ran down the Drivers Side and onto the Crossover Pipe. We were Pushing the Truck (75 mph) last Month up some pretty big hills (Adirondack mountains) taking him to College from CT to Upstate NY. Was pretty scary at times. Smoke started Billowing out from the Drivers Side as I followed him. We pulled over and I climbed underneath, saw the Transmission Fluid running down the side onto the Shift Linkage and Dripping onto the Exhaust Crossover pipe. We wound up driving like 60 mph and taking our time, did not leak then. Missed Book store that day I have searched the "net" and I do not believe it is the Cooler Lines leaking as they are on the Right Side. Is it possible to be coming from the Trans Case Breather ? and the Fluid was a little High on the Stick. I did have the Trans Filter/ Fluid serviced in the late Spring too. Anyone have a Cure ? What you describe is an overfilled trans and very hot fluid, check it hot in park on a level surface.

the fluid leaking out the vent on tranny would mean it is over heated.
also if the fluid was slightly over filled you will get air bubbles .. then on high speed/loading this causes more bubbles due to the fluid getting hotter than normal. then it will blow out the over flow tube. since this occurred I would have the transmission fluid serviced . then check for proper level engine on in park on a level surface like a gas station. set to middle of dip stick when at normal operating temp.......... |
