Interesting. Does it have pages inside? Or it's only hardcover?

Re: Books on the Mclaren - Which ones to get and why

Its the same as the soft cover version, but with a hard cover. I'm on my qway out at the mo, so will respond in more detail unless others want to fill in the gaps

Re: Books on the Mclaren - Which ones to get and why

I thought this post is worthy of going here of Erik finally getting one of the Limited Edition copy's of Driving Ambition

It's a lot of money for a book for sure, but compared to current prices for the retail copies it almost seems a bit of a bargain.

As amazing as the retail copy of "Driving Ambition" is the Limited Edition version is really a big step up in my opinion. Ignoring the fancy box it comes in and the leather outer cover - just the paper stock they printed the pages on and the print quality is leagues better than the store version. If you don't care about that stuff, there's a lot more content too - 408 pages, I think it was, versus 272 in the retail copy.

They expand on the Heavenly Twins; they expand on the GTR history; they expand on the build process; there are overlays of some images showing their original technical drawing or sketch; those pages with Gordon's handwritten notes are actually photocopies stuck into the book, not just printed on the page; there are some stunning photographs not seen in the regular version too.

I haven't compared the text word for word, but suspect that for the most part it is the same. There's an introduction by Masour in the first few pages that doesn't appear in the regular version. The book is signed by the four principles (Ron, Mansour, Gordon and Creighton) and they appear to be real signatures, not just printed ones. In addition to the Chassis plate inside the front cover the 'McLaren Track Record' plate (which is fixed to the carbon panel where the F1's modem jack and charging port are located) along with the "World's Fastest Production Car" plate (which we've seen on some cars affixed just ahead of the chassis plate) are both stuck to the inside of the back cover of the book. I'm sure there are other things I have overlooked commenting on too - I'm really kinda blown away by the whole thing so far. I was under the impression that this version would be mostly the same, but that's really not so true afterall. A lot of real effort went into adding to this version of the book to make it more complete.

Referring back to my earlier comment, I now know what 'all the fuss was about' and it was for very good reason. The biggest problem with it is that it is so nice you just don't want to touch it.

As said in Ferris Bueller's Day Offf - "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

Thanks - that is a better place for that info.

I'll share some photos of it later on - after I've washed my hands.

If you want to fast-track your F1 library, try to bid on these

Looks like an interesting lot.
That estimate seems a bit low to me though, the GTR book we know is worth at least £200+ itself. Depending on condition, £100 for the three GT Endurance books, another £75+ for the three Porsche Der Erfolgstyp yearbooks, £150 for the Le Mans annuals, £150+ for the World Sportscar annuals, and then probably another £250 - £300 or so all together for the others. F40 Da Corsa for instance is really hard to find. I'd expect that lot to go for £800 - £900.

I thought you were holding out for a non-West covered one? have you given in and now after any covered one, West being least desired?

Re: Books on the Mclaren - Which ones to get and why

Ideally I would like to have the Gulf cover. I wouldn't mind the Harrods cover either.

The West livery is one of my least favorites and the angle/perspective of that cover shot they used seems a poor choice to me.

I know one for sale in Italy, requested price: € 417,-
Looking for this book for an affordable price a very long time, but is a bid too much (for me).
