seeking advice on a '67 Shelby Mustang GT500

I am considering buying a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500. I found one on the internet and I have been communicating via e-mail. It is in pieces but he says all the original parts come with it. How would I know if this is a legitimate deal? If anyone has some advice, please let me hear it! Thanks.

There is a book called Shelby Buyer's Guide, by Richard J Kopec and endorsed by the Shelby American Automobile Club. Mine is old an old copy but you may be able to get one from Branda or SAAC. Also check with the Shelby regestry to see if it is a good shelby vin. There are too many things to put down here like the door jam tag will have a box under the vin that says Special Performance Vehicle in it. And the production tag will say SHELBY in it as well as there are many many shelby spacific parts on the cars. So go check a good shelby book as the tags are being repoduced. Good luck and spend a little time now will be better than lost money if it is not a true one. I had a 68kr at a show once and a guy brought one in and it looked great like a brand new restoration and he thought it was real and it was not. Jeff

It is definitely buyer beware when it comes to finding a Shelby Mustang. Like Jeff was suggesting get real familiar with what makes a Shelby Mustang a real one. And keep in mind that even though any real Shelby Mustang is a keeper, some are more than others. And beauty is in the eye of the buyer/owner. 1967 GT 500's are hot property right now. I bet there are more '67 GT 500's now than there were in 1967. I've seen more reproductions than I could have imagined. Some were very well done, but not real and could fool even the best of us. Re: seeking advice on a '67 Shelby Mustang GT500

This is really interesting this thread.

Ive often wondered how and where you could come across a Shelby 67' Mustang.

Im reletively young and live in Scotland so it isnt a car that we find on the streets here everyday.

I've often said that it is one of my lifetime ambitions to own one of them automobiles.

Does anyone know roughly how many were released?
