Question Help identifying engine in a 6000 series GMC

I found a 73-77 GMC 6000 series truck that has a big block. I searched the net but couldn't find a site that I can decode to find out exactly what engine it has.

Can anyone here help me on this?

Can get the engine for $400 and it runs real good. Would this be a good engine to put in a Chevelle? Can these engines be built up to perform well?

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Welcome to AF. Get the casting number off the block and go to mortec.com for id info. Most likely a 366 or 396 truck engine which were not performance oriented .
