bass friendly cars???????

im thinking about buying a new car. i drive a grand prix right now and im just not happy with the acoustics of it. i have to spend unbelievable amounts of money on my system to get it loud enough. problem is that my subs are about 6 feet behind me and they are in a trunk. i was looking into getting either an SUV or a hatchback, perhaps a pick-up. I just want some ideas on what cars yall think have the best acoustics. i was thinking maybe a mini cooper but i dont know if it will be big enough in the back without taking out the back seat. also, im not trying to spend too much money, no more that $20000. i appreciate any input.

My sub is pretty loud in my '98 Grand Prix. Rattling is a major problem. Especially if you have that console on the ceiling. All those little compartments rattle and crap inside the console as an entirety rattles. Makes it sound like crap. The imaging on the front door speakers is pretty decent IMO. The tweeters are shit though. They are facing the dash basically. For that matter, I'm buying kick panels that image everything right towards the HU/review mirror area.

Re: bass friendly cars???????

Hatchbacks are loud! Also, SUVs have plenty of room. Don't get a Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee...they suck SPL wise.

PS: I love my ext. cab dakota with an 18 directly behind the seat

Re: bass friendly cars???????

i know what you mean, i have a 99 and the rattling is horrible. there is just too much car for a system like mine. also i have my box pulled all the way to the front of the trunk (rear of the car) for better reverb. it just doesn't sound right with all that airspace between it and the inside of the trunk. i need a car that doesn't have a lot of airspace in it at all, not just the trunk. i cant stand it, i can stick my head in the opening between the back seats and it is so loud. has to be 160 db. but im losing so much bass because of the construction of the car.

Re: bass friendly cars???????

Hatchbacks are definately number one. SUVs always rattle too much esp. the roof.......ext. cab trucks always rattle unless its brand new...... firing back in cars blows..... I lke my setup up.....very efficient and sounds VERY good with no rattling inside and hardly any on the outside......and that's at 140db on a VERY strict TL (more like a 141 on the TL USB) ohh yea and I have no sound deadening..... I'm firing 2 12's forward in a 97 mustang FYI......check out my vid on realmofexcursion under RE Audio SExxx.

Re: bass friendly cars???????

i Have an 89 s10 blazer with 2-15" mtx 8500 (yeah there not the best but i got them cheap) about 250 each on ebay. Each has its own profile ca 600 bridgedso its supposed to be 450, it doesnt rattle that bad the only thing that does rattle is the rear lock, and the roof a little bit. The acoustics are a hell of a lot better than a car with a trunk.

Re: bass friendly cars???????

nooooo SUV's are a lot harder to get even smooth bass out of and if your subs hit hard at all you will rattle like a mofo...... get a hatchback or a car w/ a big trunk opening and seats that fold down.

Re: bass friendly cars???????

Blazers rattle like a mofo for about 1month....then they just gradually stop.... kid at my school has a w7 13 in a 3cuft ported enclosure with a JL 1000.1 on it. it rattled to no end up untill around 1-1 1/2 months after it was initially installed. no dampening...it just sort of stopped rattleing except for the licenst plate which he had matted.

kid had a mazda 6 with 2 W6v2's and i think a JL 500.1 on each. back then Bone Crusher "Neva Scared" was popular and i first saw his car i asked what was rattleing so much. i held the license plate and everything and it was still rattleing. if found one problem, the rear wind sheild would vibrate agiasnt the brake light. but then he told me me to put my hand between the spoiler and trunk. on the first hard beat of that song my hand stopped the rattleing. but if i took it out you could see the spoiler crashing into the trunk. that was something amazing. other than that car i have never seen or heard of that happening before or since then.

well, back to the question ...... cars that make good bass are hatchbacks that are kinda egg or bubble shaped - i.e. the roof is rounded out like the CRX
