torque wrench socket

I have a deep impact socket used with an air impact wrench to remove wheel nuts.
May I used the same deep impact socket with a torque wrench to tighten my car (13/16") wheel nuts?
If not, which type of socket should be used with the torque wrench?

Re: torque wrench socket

the air impact puts more stress on the socket than torquing it to correct torque so go ahead and use the same socket to torque them

Re: torque wrench socket

What type of car do you have? It seems just about all lugnuts have migrated to metric over the past several years. Are you sure you shouldn't be using a 19mm or possibly 21mm socket on those lugnuts?

If you're not using the correct socket, some of that torque you are applying could be going to deforming the nut, and over time you might end up damaging them as well, especially removing them with an impact if the socket isn't correct.

I can just about guarantee you that you are using the incorrect socket for your car. It will be either a 19mm (most likely) or a 21 mm. Since 13/16 inch comes out to slightly less than 21mm, I suspect 19mm is correct. Using that 13/16" socket with an impact is likely to cause damage to the nuts over time.
